Analyst: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars Could Sell 2 Million This Year

With high marks coming in for Rockstar's first outing on the Nintendo DS, the just-released Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, analysts are expecting portable gamers to grab up several million copies of the title by the end of the year.

"If the title's subsequent reviews are consistent with the initial critical response, 'Chinatown Wars' would be the highest rated title on the DS to date," said Cowen Group analyst Doug Creutz. Creutz expects that the game will see sales of 2 million units this year, according to Gamasutra.

"The highly-rated release supports our belief that Take-Two has, pound-for-pound, the highest-quality development talent in the industry," added Creutz.

I honestly don't think it will even break a million. I mean how many people here will buy this for their DS? Those who have ds's, myself included, don't want to play 'adult' games on their portable. If they did they'd have a psp.

what? what kind of logic is that? why not play an "adult" game on the ds?

      You sir, Fail!
This whole pathetic notoin that Nintendo is for "kids," and "real," "serious" games choose the PS3/PSP/XBox360 is such a load of bollocks.
A game is a game, a platform is a platform, a game that works well on a platform and is a great game will sell regardless of the perceptions a few dweebs still hang onto.
And GTA Chinatown rocks, probably the best use of the DS hardware since Zelda...oh wait, I'm sorry, that's a "kid's" game, isn't it...how could I possibly play and enjoy both?!

      Loser...

I'd buy it, GTA 1/2 were awesome, and this looks to be that but better.

I agree a bit with this post. I have both a DS and PSP and I have absolutely no desire to buy this game. I have the 2 GTA games for the PSP and they are amazing. This looks like it pales in comparison.

I'm not sure how well it will sell either, but right now I'm enjoying it more than GTA4. I hope it sells, seems like a good game. And drug wars > cell phone and play dates as far as distractions form the main story go.

You're goddamn right, sir! Why do these game companies make adult games for my children's toys! Soon I can't even use it as a baby sitter! Oh the Humanity!

sarcasm apparently. :) The nintendo ds is not a toy of course. It can be used as one though. That's the strength of it.

I too don't understand this post. I want to play good games on my DS - I don't care if they're rated E or M.

I could see an argument that the DS is maybe not a logical fit for a GTA game because so many owners are kids, but that's just an argument for why it can't sell 10 million on the platform. 2 million seems in reach.

At least 100 million DS units have been sold worldwide. They only need 2% to buy this to hit that 2 million number.

Not true. The DS is not just a kiddie system. The reason the DS is so popular is because it is also popular with older audiences. In fact, I know more adults with a ds than kids. Just personal experience of course.
