by Nick Breckon, Mar 17, 2009 12:01pm PDT

Tecmo has announced that it will bring a version of its kinetic beat-em-up sequel Ninja Gaiden 2 (Xbox 360) to the PlayStation 3 this fall.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 will feature PlayStation Network support and new content, according to a Kotaku report gleaned from Famitsu.

In addition to poster ninja Ryu Hayabusa, Sigma 2 will also allow players to mash buttons as Dead or Alive's Ayane.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is scheduled to arrive in stores this fall in Japan. No word on an official North American date.

  • I absolutley loved the original game. NG2 while still very fun and a damn good game was no where near the NG:B/DMC3 level of action game awesomeness.

Ninja Gaiden for XBOX is still the best 3rd person action game ever made, not even debatable. No game was so punishing but still quite capable of being mastered. I remember my first run through was a lesson in pain. By the time I stopped playing it daily I was doing no death runs on hard mode. The shit that you thought was a cheap move was actually telegraphed to you before hand and avoidable if you were paying attention (like exploding shurikens). Bosses could hand your ass to you until you learned the patterns they exihibit.

Best update of a 2d game since Mario 64.

    • NG2 made me angry where the careful balance between hard and cheap was not there. Enemies would still have the warm up animations, but half the time I died due to off screen projectiles (and the subsequent juggle of doom). A game at this level of hardcore I do not mind cheapness if it is pattern based. NG2 was a little to random, enemies would always spawn in the same spot, but their actions would vary when you met them.

This game would be on my shit list except the combat was somehow incredibly satifying (when it was not cheap). It had every chance to out do the original team ninja effort and fell short. Combat was better than the original, and very fun. Elements of the game made me mad. Ghost fish were easier for some bizzare reason (very easy to take care of in NG when you figured out how), but in this game I could never manage to ever at one point be in full control of a situation due to the absurd amount of projectile spame.

For example: R:Type Final, hard as hell, cheap as hell, pattern based. Loved the game because you could master it.

NG/NG:B: Hard as hell game. Got used to it and you could further test yourself. Run a game with no ninpo. Run a game with no deaths. Run a game with no heals. Run a game on very hard with no damage (it has been done, I dunno how but someone did it). On NG2 I do not see this as possible.

Anyway long double post... sorry guys.
