Morning Discussion
by Chris Faylor, Mar 16, 2009 7:06am PDTMonday, already? It seems like I barely got anything accomplished this weekend.
Really, I just played an hour or two Resident Evil 5, co-created and tested a Peggle drinking game, cleaned the apartment, watched some Wire, and read a few chapters of Snow Crash. The rest of the time, I was either sleeping or doing something here.
There were also about five minutes spend on a hammock. Hammock weather, at last!
On the plus side, um, I've got another chance at the weekend here in a couple days?

So, I signed up for a trial account and ended up joining some random corp down in Gallente territory, but I feel like I'm floating around aimlessly waiting for my skills to increase. Is there a guide out there that would get me a good taste of everything and explain to me the basics. (I still have no idea what happens if I die...But I guess that's a good thing).

Great display, browsing and music player But….the iPhone is a mediocre phone. Period. Lousy battery life, have to shut off Bluetooth, and 3G else gotta charge it every night. Keyboard so-so --easy to make mistakes; and no custom preset messages. No copy/paste. I can’t leave myself voice reminders. Lousy cheap camera, not even a flash. Geez, I can’t record video either. Can’t take stuff off the phone easily. I have to connect to a computer! No Bluetooth data. Weak 3G coverage where I live. Holding it for phone calls is uncomfortably wide. GPS navigation useless, no talking or re-routing. No effin speed dial! Where’s the increasing ringer? WTF, No freakin hands-free voice command or dialing. What, no stereo Bluetooth? My boss sent me a zip file, couldn't open it. What a scam, but at least I look cool having an iPhone.

Kind of grinds my gears, but I guess it's to be expected.

Why does every sci-fi movie feel the need to turn in to a fucking cliche sci-fi horror film? You don't need a goddamn monster to have conflict! There was plenty of conflict in the crew interaction and the mechanical problems and all that. Goddamnit why did they do that. :(
Overall I give it a big thumbs up but man what a last one third.

THEWRITER reviews THE DONGMEN
The bad:
- Silk Spectre II is, as many have noted, very average and a not strong enough lynchpin to end the film on in my opinion but the actress is no worse than Portman in Star Wars, Dunst in Spiderman or Berry in X-Men, so she's in good company and at least she got her tits out
- Her tits were kinda small, but a great ass - and smokin' hot nonetheless
- Manhattan's CG was patchy as all hell at times, especially around his mouth
- The ending is all wrong tonally, it just sort of happens and there's no similar sense of gravity to the proceedings
- Superheroes or regular heroes? There was enough wall to wall flipping, jumping, bone-breaking and acrobatics to convince me that these weren't regular people acting out in costumes but insanely bad ass strongmen and women
- Ozy and Silk Spectre II both look too young for their purported ages, I mean, they all did except the Comedian but these two noticably so
The good?
- Pretty much everything else imaginable, yeah, I KNOW, what?
- Rorschach was fucking amazing, mask on and off, Haley deserves the Ledger-level praise - here's hoping he gets a nod but unlikely given mask
- Jon's voice and the general presence of Manhattan, blue dong and all, was fantastic
- Each of the backstories were nailed very well
- Every "big" scene that played out great in the graphic novel played out splendidly on the big screen with the allowance for those that got cut for time
- Some all-round solid acting from Comedian and others, dodgy make-up notwithstanding
- A ton of other stuff that I can't think of right now, like some of the funny parts and using Ride of Valkyries when they did
Short version? 2 and a half hours of awesome with a totally muted denouement that leaves bad taste in mouth due to it being tonally shit.

I'm absolutely loving the social customs springing up in this game. For example, at launch, healing your mates was considered "good", and Valve even created an achievement for it. Now, as players move towards Expert difficulty as a norm, we have players "refusing" to be healed. "NO! I'm not black and white yet!" I've been yelled at, and even incapped once--for healing someone. Though, the more extreme resistance to being healed seems to correlate with female players. My sample size may be small though--any other observations?
Also, I think the most effective carrot/game mechanic that Valve has introduced to the game is stat tracking zombie kills at the end of each level. It seems to make players take a "I can kill more zombies than you" attitude--which invariably leads to spotty decision making (and player deaths). Observing the way people play is a fascinating experience.
I can't get enough of it.

I started a campaign and I chose to go solo. Now, one of my friends wants to start a co-op campaign from scratch, will that erase my solo campaign?

This is my first time through the series and can't wait to plow through more. Having just finished season two and looking on ahead, I see there are quite a few spinoffs and other projects. Should I just watch them in the order they were released in or what?

I think it really needs to fucking stop. Do we really need it in every fucking games now? Coop is fun but I prefer single-player by far or competitive MP.
The way it is going now is that in the future I will have to play games in solo with some stupid AI following me and doing stupid stuff because it will never be as good as playing it with a real person.
I enjoy the story in games even if most of them are crappy and you can't really experience it when playing it when someone else unless it's local coop and it's both your first time playing the game.

What does everyone pay? Yearly? Monthly? On the door?
What benefits do you get? Clean towels? Free saunas? Personal trainers? Hand jobs?
I pay £70 a month (UK STERLING, this is probably an extortionate if directly compared to the US dollar) for a company called esporta to make me fit. They provide a personal trainer and clean towels, shampoo, body wash etc, and have TVs and shit in the weights room, plus martial arts/pilates/tai chi etc. It's pretty good, but tell me what you get for your price.
