Crytek's CryEngine 3 to Debut at GDC
by Nick Breckon, Mar 11, 2009 5:09pm PDTThe third iteration of Crytek's proprietary graphics engine CryEngine will debut at this month's Game Developers Conference, according to a release from the company.
"We've been preparing a long time for CryENGINE on consoles and we're confident that Crytek will again amaze developers at GDC," said Crytek director of business development Carl Jones.
Crytek's release mainly touts the engine's cross-platform development features, including scalability for those pesky next-gen systems.
The Game Developers Conference runs from March 23 through the 27th in San Francisco. Check out the full release below:
Crytek Announces CryENGINE 3

CryENGINE is the underlying technology for Crytek's critically acclaimed games Crysis and Crysis Warhead and has already been licensed to a number of major game companies around the globe, including several recent serious games training and simulation projects.
Crytek's Engine Business Team will be available during the show for meetings to discuss licensing details with prospective clients. In addition, Crytek will be hosting a series of public presentations at their booth #5940 in the North Hall.

Doesn't the 'next gen' engine built for working on the 'last gen' hardware seem weird to anyone else?

On the other hand, engines like Unreal Engine 3 and Lithtech Jupiter EX and Jupiter EX Plus and Dunia still look amazing, yet run infinitely better on a wider variety of systems than CryEngine does. Unless Crytek has done some miracle-like optimization of their engine - and I mean more than just making the textures blurry two feet away from the player (*cough* Warhead *cough*) I don't see anything changing.

I don't give a damn about the consoles...I really want to see improvements in PC platform like SLI or crossfire enhancements, physics improvements, multicore support...surprise us CRYTEK but always in PC first!
