Nintendo Raises Wii Trade Price in UK

Citing "the severe and continuing depreciation of the pound," Nintendo has announced that it will begin charging UK retailers 18-20 GBP more for each Wii unit purchased.

"The price that they then offer to consumers is, of course, up to the retailers," Nintendo explained, according to GamesIndusty.biz. "This is a problem brought about by extreme currency fluctuations that are a symptom of the global economic situation."

The system currently has a recommended retail price of 179.99 GBP.

Nintendo warned that upcoming Wii and DS software may also see price increases at the trade level, but does not expect increases for Nintendo DS and DSi hardware.

Terrible price for such dated technology, people bitch and complain about the PS3's price because of its high tech (Blu-Ray, swappable HDD, built in WiFi, etc.), yet never complain that a Wii at almost $300 CAN has no DVD, terrible online capabilities, GC level graphics technology, etc.

I own all 3 consoles so I am not being biased, just observational from my time with all 3 consoles.

I wonder if they're selling well in the UK, here I've seen Wii's in stock at all my retail outlets, Best Buy has a stack of at least 30 of them, Target, Walmart, TRU, and Gamestop's are stocked too.
