BattleForge Goes Open Beta
by Chris Faylor, Mar 10, 2009 10:15am PDTAs EA Phenomic prepares to release its unique trading card strategy game BattleForge on March 24, it today launched an open beta for the PC title at BattleForge.com.
The beta allows everyone to sample the game's full catalog of cards and maps. After the title launches, beta participants will receive a bonus upgraded Firedancer unit.
Mixing the real-time strategy genre with the customization and social aspects of trading card games, the game is described by EA as a "genre-changing world" and "the first RTS to combine the social and community aspects of an MMO with an exciting RTS."
Along with online multiplayer and cooperative play for up to 12 players, the full game will also sport single-player scenarios, guild support and an auction hall.

This game is going to fail.
Sorry EA, you probably have another flop on your hands. At least you (sort of) tried something different, though. ;)
For those of you like me that don't want to do PVP you see the scenarios and say "Hey lets challenge the computer 4v4!" so you line up and start a game. You win and say "Hey I beat this board why can't I play the next one?"
Not so fast there tiger. Unless you HOST, not play, in the match you won't be able to advance. So you sit there for HOURS waiting for someone, anyone to come in to your game so you can move on, pray that you'll get more people who have advanced and go from there.
This was about a month ago, the setup is unique and fun, gets a bit overwhelming with the sheer amount of forces and the AI goes from either incredibly f'n stupid to Field Marshal Rommel.
The buying cards bit doesn't entice me, not interested in that. It's like magic the gathering but an RTS. Another way for EA to get your dollars. Sorry, they got me on Spore. No more for you.

I'll give it a shot.
