Shack PSA: Unreal Tournament 3 Free to Play This Weekend on Steam

Coinciding with the release of the big 2.0 patch and Titan Pack update for the PC version of Unreal Tournament 3, Steam plans to offer the game as a free-to-play title this weekend.

In addition to the weekend trial, Unreal Tournament 3 Black--a download including the original game and updates--has now been discounted 40% through March 15 on Steam, making the entire package a $12 buy.

Dear Epic, please return Invasion mode. Why in God's name did you take it out of UT3? Just look at Horde, which is an invasion variant. It is very popular in Gears of War 2. Bring it back, you assholes!

Epic can go lick some donkey balls.

The engine isn't even pretty to look at in any way. I wish we had got what the old UnrealEngine 3 videos promised, rather than UE2 with normal maps.

Yea, very cool. $12 for the US and 11,99€ for us. Well, fuck you Valve.

I installed the game the other day, just to remind myself what was so bad about it. And yea, it's crap. Absolute crap. It wasn't really playable even with the Promod (can't remember the real name). Glowing enemy models were fine but dunno why turned into annoying grey shit at close range. Pro? No.

UT2004 was a great game, though.

It's also $11.99 now until the 15th, I think. I went ahead and bought it; I'm just a little concerned but I figure for $12 I could at least enjoy the offline play and sometimes I like to have a game to use for benchmarking when I know it loves to suck up plenty of CPU.

Small note on the ShackUT3 server. I'm currently nuking it from orbit and re-installing, there was a ton of cruft and unused files, mods that were taking up space and the server itself didn't update cleanly. Luckily, my server provider as the option to install the game and the titan pack from there, so no uploading via FTP.
