Left 4 Dead DLC Coming Before April 21

The forthcoming Survival mode downloadable content for Left 4 Dead will arrive no later than April 20, developer Valve informed IGN. Specifically, the DLC will debut sometime before the Left 4 Dead: Critics Choice Edition re-release hits retail on April 21.

The free PC and Xbox 360 download adds the Dead Air and Death Toll campaigns to the game's competitive Versus mode, and also adds a new fast-paced Survival mode.

The site also provided a few new details on Survival mode, revealing that 11 of the 12 Survival maps are culled from existing materials, with the new map called Lighthouse.

Upon starting a Survival match, players can explore and gather equipment for as long as they want before activating the zombie horde. However, the game will spare no time in unleashing multiple special zombies--a tank, boomer, smokers and a hunter assaulted IGN simultaneously, and it's apparently possible for two tanks to spawn at once.

Valve added that none of its testers have lasted over nine minutes in a Survival match.

Chris Faylor was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.

Yeah I am excited as well. This is just what L4D needs to be extended until the next DLC comes out. Hopefully the second DLC adds more Co-Op and versus campaigns.

Second DLC? There hasn't been any mention... Just rumors, kinda like what you just did.

L4D needs to be expanded... I would like to actually build something like maybe pickup wood and nail it to windows to fortify your group. This game could be better than it already is.

Um, I never said that the second DLC has been announced. But its going to happen, TF2 has a ton of DLC packs.

Oh, and DLC is what expands a game.

I'm psyched - a good friend just got on board with L4D, so I'm kind of having my second spring with it.

I'm excited as well. I was really surprised that a survival mode wasn't in the original game, I'm really happy that it's being added now.

        It is....sort of.

        Survive 4 Dead!

Start any of the finales on easy, play through the finale, then DON'T get on the rescue vehicle. Sure, easy zombies are easy, and you can survive for quite a while against those, but what will you do when THREE tanks want to give you hugs?

even more so, there are console commands to change the # of waves in a finale... me and my friends can survive 4 waves, but by the time the 5th wave and tank comes out, theres not much in the way of health left.

          and then theres this one...

i would imagine that this is all they changed for "survival mode", and systematically increasing the special infected caps... until you DIE!.

...Except with two tanks that strategy goes to shit in no time!

Yeah, I guess. Although it seems to be the perfect strategy in regular co-op, where there is always that small pause in-between regular rushes of Horde and an incoming Tank. As long as there's still that telltale audio cue...

It sounds like a freaking 9 minute insane riot fest. I can't wait!
