World in Conflict Console Port Canned

10
The console port of Massive Entertainment's RTS World in Conflict, originally announced for a fall 2008 release, has now been cancelled according to word from Massive owner Ubisoft.

"A console version of World in Conflict is not planned for release at this time," said an Ubisoft rep to IGN today. 50 Cent: Blood in the Sand developer Swordfish Studios was contributing work to the World in Conflict console port. Following Activision's merger with Blizzard Entertainment, the two branches of Swordfish were sold to Monumental Games and Codemasters.

Longtime RTS developer Massive Entertainment was sold to Ubisoft last November, saving the World in Conflict: Soviet Assault project, a PC expansion now planned for release later this month.

I agree, there was little in the way of micromanagement of units, special abilities which would have been well suited to the buttons, and drop-in drop-out style servers well suited to casual play. Oh well, I guess they couldn't afford the investment.

Yeah, this was simplistic enough for the console gamers but had enough depth for anyone to enjoy it. Real shame that it got canned. But based on the lack of extra stuff in the expansion, I'd guess that Massive just didn't get a lot of support for their work.

        Depth? Are you kidding?

Nope, not kidding but I'm also not referring to the Single-player aspect, either. Multiplayer provides for a large variety of gameplay styles and tactical decisions. Good fun!

WiC should run on any PC based on "current" medicre hardware. Maybe it's time for you guys upgrade. A $80 4670 (think thats the model) should easily run this.

I think you missed his point. He was interested in playing an RTS on the console b/c it has the potential to be good. Not b/c his PC is lacking.

What does a PC have to do with this? This is a console port of a PC game. There are a lot of different reasons to get console games versus PC games, not just having to do with if your PC can run a game. Friends swapping games, resell value, etc.

I've already got a gtx 280 and other nice specs, I was just saying it would have been good on consoles regardless.
