      well there's your problem. A majority of HDTVs won't pass along optical from an HDMI input through the TVs optical output. The optical output on the HDTV is for passing along the DD feeds it gets from over-the-air broadcasts. What you need is either the special breakout cable that fits into the normal xbox AV port and allows the HDMI cable to fit too or a regular 360 AV cable that you've cracked the plastic casing off so that it'll fit with the HDMI cable plugged in. From there you run optical directly from the 360 to your receiver.
