Nintendo Reveals New Wii Controller

19
Nintendo today updated its Wii website with information on a new, upcoming Wii controller (pictured left).

The "Classic Controller PRO" will add extra shoulder buttons and hand grips to the original classic controller concept. As with the classic controller, the PRO will apparently still need to be wired to a Wii Remote.

The new pad is slated for a vague "summer" release date in Japan. No pricing details were released.

It's wireless enough. You don't have a wire going to the console, just to a wiimote that you can let sit on the sofa or in your lap or whatever.

Seems an okay compromise to reduce the weight, cost and hassle changing batteries in multiple controllers.

with the exception of the extra buttons, it looks like they just took a regular classic controller and a third party classic controller holder and glued them together. The fact that it still requires wires also sucks, but actually I like the fact the GC controller never runs out of juice and doesn't eat up batteries during the days/weeks/months the Wii is sat idle*.

Also the cord is going out the top instead of the bottom.

That took me a while to get used to with the classic controller. I always pick it up upside down. However, once I remember, I prefer it that way.
