I mean, there's that new Team Fortress 2 update, Quake Live has gone ...live, Puzzle Quest: Galactrix is here, that new 50 Cent game is out, and Killzone 2 arrives in 2 days. And here I am, still thinking about Dawn of War II and Burnout Paradise. So behind.
Oh, by the way. Words cannot express how excited I am for Rock Band PSP. I didn't think I would care, but since it's basically a new game in the vein of Frequency and Amplitude, well, I've been demanding that for years. Plus new songs via downloadable content!

Never never play Unreal Tournament 3 with a shitty ass Geforce 8600 GT. Biggest mistake of my life.
Shit I didn't know the animations had such a smooth flow that Unreal 1 had on a fast graphics card. This just blew me away. The funniest part was that the damn card never made any noise at all. I kept waiting for it to kick in and it never did. Gonna have to find a better deserving game for this thing! :)

Anyone here checked out the beta for the Agile Rails 3rd Edition book? Looking for an introduction to the changes and whatnot in rails 2.x over 1.8 and it seems like this might be the best option. Just wondering if it's worth spending $25 for a beta PDF file.

So I have a user who dumped all her data on a usb flash stick, flew to Germany, plugged it in, and nada. 0 data. no media. etc.
My colleague tells me it may have been the airport security/xray machine that fried the stick. Can anyone speak to this? Also, do any free utils exist to try to recover any of this data??

I had a bad contact lens that threw me off. I spent a good 30 minutes fighting with it, both the assistant and I thinking it was just harder for me to do my right eye. When we finally just tried a new lens, it went right in and out and back in again. I took the bad lens and ripped it in half! ARGH!
It is an amazing feeling to be able to see and not have glasses on. I always hated anything near my eye and just was squeemish about eyes but I manned up and got it taken care of and I couldn't be happier.

By the end of this thing I was crying in hysterics, my wife was depressed and bawling, and my friend wanted to go outside and break something(or someone).
As a new dad with a 1 year old, this movie hit hard. I have never been so sad, depressed, frustrated, and angry from watching a movie.

Quake Live -- it's nice to have lots of other people finally playing this game. I am disappointed the Threewave CTF maps are not included, but some of the non-Space-CTF maps are good. Not much has changed gameplay-wise since last July when I joined the beta. The intro practice session with Crash is different; having to bunny hop and RJ to get to the advanced level was kind of amusing. I beat Crash easily but did not shut her out (I had a shutout going and then she got in a couple good rockets). There are achievements in this game now?! haha. Anyway, it's fun. My name there is chem if anyone wants to friend me.
Dawn of War 2 - another big patch last night, but no notes? Maybe an extension of the vista32 fix? Anyway, shack 3v3 games are great fun. Playing ranked 3v3 with bunny and techy, we're still undefeated as a team. Even though I sucked it up at the start of a game last night! BTW, tyranid T2 is highly underrated. Their artillery units are great, if you micro them to avoid their getting ganked.
TF2 Scout Update - I didn't get to play on shackwest last night, but I did get the first unlock playing on dustbowl and 2fort pubs. A lot of the scout-unlocks seem designed to defeat achievementbox style maps. Looking forward to getting the baseball one. The new unlocks seem partially designed to help the scout be a flagrunner in CTF. They really help there, and I hope it leads to more people playing CTF!

This is just lol, they have about a hour left in their launch day (releasing in Europe) and the servers are still not up and nothing has been said. They also ran out of preorders and many are quite pissed off they have to wait to play now, I was lucky enough to snag one last night yet they billed me 6 times because their account server is just fubar'd.
The nerd rage surrounding this is hilarious.
There is also no miracle patch with hidden features or debug mode everyone has been insisting on, what we saw is what we got.
I love MMO launches.

Is there a global system level way to remove or hide menu bar icons?
I have too many icons up there and it's starting to collide with the regular menus. I want to remove MobileMe, DropBox and LogMeIn manu bar icons and I can't find a way - it's not in their respective prefs and they don't respond to any click-keystroke combination I've tried.

Being a guy and therefore not having a purse, I've always carried my phone around in my pants pocket. I wear blue jeans to work and blue jeans pockets have lint in them, all the time, no matter what.
I keep my iPhone in a case (this one, currently - the gray combo http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/wave3g ) and while that's cool and all and keeps it from getting scratched up, it gets lint in between the case/sheild and the phone. So I find myself having to take it out of the case and do a dusting job every few weeks. Plus this isn't the kind of case I really want anyway - I'd prefer one that looks as clear and like the original phone as possible. I did buy one like that but it was such a flimsy piece of shit I ditched it.
I have a briefcase but I'm very frequently without it. I could use a belt clip but I don't want to look like a total tool. I'm a programmer, not a sysadmin or someone who looks "normal" carrying around devices on their belt. Also most of the ones I've seen don't allow for the iPhone to have a case on while it's in the clip.
Guys who have iPhones - how do you carry them around? If you're like me and keep it in your jeans pocket, how do you deal with lint and dirt? Does anyone think carrying it around on your belt when you're not a technician makes you look retarded? Are there any belt clip case solutions which involve keeping the phone in a protected case?

The effect on the securitization market was electric. Armed with Li's formula, Wall Street's quants saw a new world of possibilities. And the first thing they did was start creating a huge number of brand-new triple-A securities. Using Li's copula approach meant that ratings agencies like Moody's—or anybody wanting to model the risk of a tranche—no longer needed to puzzle over the underlying securities. All they needed was that correlation number, and out would come a rating telling them how safe or risky the tranche was.
As a result, just about anything could be bundled and turned into a triple-A bond—corporate bonds, bank loans, mortgage-backed securities, whatever you liked. The consequent pools were often known as collateralized debt obligations, or CDOs. You could tranche that pool and create a triple-A security even if none of the components were themselves triple-A. You could even take lower-rated tranches of other CDOs, put them in a pool, and tranche them—an instrument known as a CDO-squared, which at that point was so far removed from any actual underlying bond or loan or mortgage that no one really had a clue what it included. But it didn't matter. All you needed was Li's copula function.
Quick summary of why it went wrong: Li's approach made no allowance for unpredictability: It assumed that correlation was a constant rather than something mercurial. And the rampant abuse of the copula by financial institutions on a trillion-dollar scale didn't help.

Well the mouse isn't completely dead, just the right button. I switched it to left hand mode, but now I have no right click. :(
Oh hey, did you guys know there's a button that when you click makes your left click act like a right click? Cause I just found one on my keyboard!

Can someone give me the tech specs for each touch screen, because seriously, I became very frustrated when he stated that menus on an iTouch/Phone do not work well, while the DS is far superior. Lets be serious, the iTouch/Phone is a phone, its technology is catered to much more complex touch controls from keyboards to scrolling and zooming, which work very well in games. I wanted to bash him in the back of the head, espeically because I know he has a bias towards any touch screen controls in the first place.
