Team Fortress 2 Scout Update Hits Steam, Valve Running 50% Off Sale Through Friday

Valve today launched the anticipated Scout update for its multiplayer class-based shooter Team Fortress 2.

The update adds new Scout achievements, three unlockable weapons--the Sandman ball and bat, Bonk energy drink and Force-A-Nature shotgun--and three community maps to the mix.

The update did not include a new mode, "Meet the" movie, or a Valve-created map, all oft-rumored potential additions.

Valve has also reduced the cost of Team Fortress 2 by half until Friday, bringing the price down to a paltry $10. The discount follows a popular half-off Left 4 Dead sale, which netted overall sales that beat the game's original launch.

You know, I liked this game for a while but both myself and ur LAN group has grown kind of tired of it now. I suspect some of that may be due to having less numbers than optimal for serious variety and depth (we usually average around 10 people). But it also feels kind of shallow, too. Perhaps I need to play more to catch the depth but the last time we fired it up at the LAN, we played about a half-hour and everyone kind of got bored. Maybe these updates will improve things, who knows....

Either way it's great that Valve supports their games in this manner. :)

I love the new scout weapons, probably more than some of the other weapon updates. I'm just so disappointed that the rumored "Cart Race" game mode wasn't added. Sounds like it'd be my new favorite mode.

On the bright side, the fact that the 'BONK' Energy Drink poster clearly shows two red and blue carts on a symmetrical map means that it will almost certainly become a reality in the future. Here's to hoping at least.

The scout is a pro troll. The update was the most annoying shit ever unlike the heavy update which was flight of the motherfucking valkyries.

Is there a tutorial mod for TF2 out there? I bought the orange box about two months ago for $20, and besides the fact that L4D (and other games) have kept me busy I'm afraid to jump into TF2 because of the severe noob factor I'll have.

I'm liking the new weapons/unlocks, had fun with them all earlier. Definitely make the scout much more appealing now, as he was my least played character.

The energy drink effect also looks pretty cool and baseballing someone is great. Haven't been too bothered about the shotgun but its early days :)
