Morning Discussion

That's ...all I've got. And I've been staring at the little flashing bar for a good ten minutes. I'd love to say it's because I was up too late playing Dawn of War II, but the sad truth is I spent most of yesterday cleaning the apartment and doing laundry. Hey, it's life.
Then I got around to watching last week's episode of Dollhouse, which I'm only watching out of some bizarre obligation I feel towards Joss Whedon. The actual show still isn't doing much for me, but the guest stars make me think of happier times, other shows they've been in that I enjoyed more, like Battlestar Galactica, Angel, and The Middleman.

apparently someone rebooted their machine during the work day of their own accord, thereby fucking up the registry. I got the machine to boot up again. Now I get "One of the files containing the system's registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful." Now, this happens on EVERY boot. Googling around says that I have bad memory, Memtest86 says I'm A-OK.
If you have a machine that has every windows update, every adobe reader patch, every fuckin driver... how would you get the registry to rebuild itself and acknowledge it doesn't have to try and recover it anymore?
I can boot normal mode, safe mode, already ran sfc /scannow, chkdsk /f /r, malwarebytes is clean, etc. I don't want to have to reload what seems to be a "fixed" machine but it can't seem to connect to its resources reliably.

Which is more important, lyrics or the music?
Don't cop out and say both are equal.
Music for me. Sometimes I don't even 'listen' to the lyrics until repeated listens.

Did any of you go to high school where the cheerleaders were actually good, hot, and the most popular group at school, like in the movies, they seem to be the ones who run the school.
At my high school our cheerleaders sucked and weren't that popular, or hot for that matter.

Anyone interested in hopping onto Live tonight and whooping my ass? I'll show you my Ken if you show me your Akuma.
I'm going to go buy a headset so I can hurl racially and sexually oriented slurs like the cool kids do.

having a good team in 3v3 is the most fun I've had in an RTS in years.

I tried pre-ordering all day long and the servers were so slow I kept timing out or not making it to the end... and now it looks from an official news that they were overwhelmed by demand and took down the account registration website.
Bummer...
it does look fun as hell though, can't wait to try it out
For the vast majority of you, this post is absolutely worthless. But for my fellow Luddites, I want to reach out to you. You see, my web habits were defined ages ago. I only had a few sites I checked every day, and some of them I could even let slide for a day or two. Engadget/Engadgetmobile are within the last 2-3 years. I've been an Ars junky for ages though. I don't follow hardware so I don't regularly check Anand/HardOCP anymore. Digg only when I'm bored. The shack front page once in awhile. Passwird/techbargains every so often. But really it was pretty easy to just open some sites up in some tabs, scroll until I saw what I saw last time and call it a day.
Not too long ago I realized that I needed to keep up with the Microsoft MVP blogs that related to Small Business Server as some great tips and information were often posted to those. All and all there are 12 of those blogs that get updated very sporadically. So I finally broke down and started to use Outlook 2007's RSS feature, and it wasn't bad. When a new post would come in, I would see it in unread mail. But soon I got sick of seeing "23 unread messages" and all of them were blog posts :(
This weekend in my cleaning spree I decided to clean that shit up as well and I started using Google Reader. Holy shit this is fantastic! I have my MS Blogs in one folder, my news sites in another, deal sites in yet another. I've added in local news from my news paper and a local business journal. I've added in updates from http://goshockers.com and a few other sites that I would never remember to check. This is the best thing ever! I just click on a title (News) and scroll and read. I can do this on my windows mobile phone, or my ipod touch, or on my laptop, or on any random computer. If I like something, I quickly star it and it is saved for me to come back to later!
I can't imagine going back to the old way of opening up each site and reading from there.
Why am I so late to the party? When I first tried RSS feeds it was just the headline on most sites. So, for example, with Engadget I would just see something like "Palm Pre handled, handed out to celebrities?" and that meant I was doing more work in opening up new tabs to each individual story. This put a very sour taste in my mouth for RSS. Plus, I just didn't have that much shit to deal with.
I only have two complaints. One isn't a complaint but an observation. I could see how one could become overloaded with information using this. It is very tempting to add feeds like they are going out of style and to keep everything as read. I'm going to fight that temptation, but the techbargains.com feed is already a bit overwhelming.
Now, my real complaint. Engadget / Engadget Mobile often post the exact same story. It would be nice if Google Reader was smart enough to ignore at least one of them. Also annoying is when one MS MVP makes a blog post and then 6 others make a post linking to that post. Again, I wish Google Reader was smart enough to just show the original post and as those links came in it would say "hey, they are linking to something he has seen already, ignore those fuckers."
If for some reason you are still doing shit the old way, consider switching to Google Reader or bloglines or whatever. It is fantastic. A++ would waste time again.

At the end he turns back into a kid, but he was born as a kid-sized old man, so he shouldn't be kid-sized at both ends of his life.

Nice! My Kindle 2 has shipped! I was afraid I'd be put on a waiting list because I only ordered it like a week ago and was sold out. Who else here is getting one or already has a Kindle?
What books is everyone currently reading on them or what books in general do everyone recommend? I have two books I've been wanting to read tagged, "Rogue Economics" and "Terror Incorporated."
I'm pretty stoked now about how you can transfer a ton of PDF's to the device now. My job deals with a lot of manuals which I have them in PDF but if I can put them into the Kindle then I won't need to have a laptop ready anymore. Also Wifi Wikipedia is sweet and it'll become the closest thing to a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

The next time you get that problem where the SEGA ad pushes all the content to the right, could you please do a view-source, save it, zip it, and upload it somewhere for me? Shackmessage the link or reply to this thread.
Thanks.
