Screenshots of Fallout 3's The Pitt DLC

By Chris Faylor, Feb 19, 2009 1:52pm PST Developer Bethesda has just revealed the first three screenshots from its second downloadable Fallout 3 expansion, The Pitt. Allowing PC and Xbox 360 owners to explore post-apocalyptic Pittsburgh, the premium-priced download hits in March.
In addition, a summary of the expansion's story and new details were provided:
The Pitt opens with a desperate radio message, and a meeting with its sender, an escaped slave named Wernher. Wernher claims that the leader of "The Pitt" has created a cure for mutations... and he needs you to go in and retrieve it. From there, the player can proceed in a number of ways, in true Fallout 3 style. Do you fight your way in, or disguise yourself as a slave? Ally with the slaves, or join their Raider overlords? The Pitt is very morally ambiguous - there's no real right or wrong, just choices to be made, sides to be chosen, and a mystery that could send shockwaves throughout the entire Wasteland.

Key Features:

  • Explore an entire new area - the post-apocalyptic ruins of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, known as The Pitt!
  • Find and use new weaponry, such as the AutoAxe, a new melee weapon with a powerful, serrated rotary blade hungry for flesh.
  • Discover new side quests and subtle plot elements and determine your path in this place where nothing is "right" or "wrong."
  • Exclusive new perks and achievements!

  • I was iffy about the first expansion Operation:Anchorage because some people claimed to beat it in 2 hours... which for 10 bucks isn't bad but considering The Lost and Damned I just got on the 17th lasts 10+ hours for the main story ALONE for $20 and you start to think maybe Anchorage should be lowered to $5...

However, this DLC pack is a definite must buy for me, as well as the next one that extends the end of the story and level cap. I mean look at the detail oozing from those screenies! I spot a new weapon, armor set and a vastly different looking industrial landscape with burning-oranges and reds in the sky... truly stunning.

For people that thought Fallout 3 was boring.. I can only imagine what you find is fun. For those who thought the color palette was plain, I believe you're missing the point.. the wasteland is supposed to look like a wasteland.. not some anime-super-color-fun-land like the whole of World of Warcraft. I would also argue you must not have seen much of the game if you think it only consists of greys and browns.. The oasis comes to mind... as does the "sim" in one of the vaults, while B&W it surely had a profound effect on how I felt and what I was doing in this perfect town.

I haven't finished the game... I don't want it to end until that expansion comes out to have it not end, but I am 30+ hours into adventuring, mostly side missions and just travelling around.. yet I know there's tons more to see and do. It's almost overwhelming, yet it's just so enthralling. Oblivion was amazing yet flawed in some very specific ways... I think Fallout 3 fixes damn near everything and creates one of the most epic pieces of entertainment and possibly art that I've had the pleasure of experiencing.

Why do I always end up typing so much on The Shack. /Opinion end
