Team Fortress 2 Announcer Punishes Cheaters
by Nick Breckon, Feb 18, 2009 6:42pm PSTIn a post on the official Team Fortress 2 blog, the TF2 announcer has announced a new initiative to punish players that took advantage of a recent exploit.
"We have sounded the alert and released a quick fix for an exploit that some unscrupulous players were using to wield items on invalid classes," said the announcer.
"I have considered an appropriate punishment for the good-for-nothings responsible for this horrendous breach of conduct," she added. "Death, of course--but death is too good for disappointments such as these. Instead, their unlockable items have been removed for a month."
Of course, even those players that managed to escape the announcer's wrath were marked as future failures.
"To the majority of you who did not see fit to cheat, you have my congratulations: I await the countless other ways you will inevitably disappoint me in the future."

Obviously people are gonna be curious of this kindava oddball class-mixing stuff and try it, cus it's fun. Doesn't mean it'll ruin things for everyone. This kind of sweeping clamp down is frankly too much centralized power, to think that if taken to the next level someone can just take your games away digitally.
Don't like it at all.

Course, most companies don't care as long as you bought the game.

There was a bug, and yes it shouldn't be exploited... but there has to be plenty of folk who used it and weren't being malicious about it. Not defending anyone who exploits a bug in a normal pub game, but there are plenty of goof off servers where players would welcome this sort of stupid hilarity.
I don't think it's right for Valve to remove unlockable weapons from EVERYONE who used the exploit, and frankly, it's a somewhat frieghtening precedence in my opinion. Just fix the bug, and be done with it. Let the admins of individual servers deal with banning or allowing an exploit in my opinion.

Still awesome regardless.
