Guild Wars 2 Delayed to 2010-11
by Nick Breckon, Feb 14, 2009 7:54pm PSTThe sequel to ArenaNet's popular MMO Guild Wars won't launch until 2010 at the earliest, according to an NCsoft earnings release obtained by VE3D.
According to the document, Guild Wars 2 is now slated for a 2010 or 2011 release. The MMO sequel was announced in March of 2007, and was originally expected to enter beta testing in 2008.
NCSoft's newest MMO, Aion: Tower of Eternity, has also been pushed back to a fourth quarter release in the United States. The NCsoft Seoul-developed title was released in Korea last November.
While NCsoft's 2008 revenue of $248.6 million represents a 5% year-over-year increase, the company's profits plummeted 40% to $20 million due to the late release of Aion.

It seemed a little too "korean MMO" for my taste.

Positives
++++++++
+ No Monthly Fee
+ Towns are populated like MMO's, lots of people about
+ Guild and Alliance system similar to MMO's
+ Fair Sized World
+ 8 vs 8 Guild battles with alliance battles and ability to replay these on Observer mode
Negatives
---------------
- No jumping/swimming
- Limited pathways to travel, not as open ended as some MMO's
- can only meet other people in towns, have to party with them in towns if you want them to join in areas with monsters
- no built in voice chat

It seems strange to me that it's taking so long. I mean, because Guild Wars was all instanced dungeons, it seems like it would take less time to build environments and stuff for.

this is what happens when an original game studio is bought by a giant publisher and assimilated into a collective of other developers where they all lose their identity. because sometimes an identity is "excellence", you know.
because if you didn't know, ArenaNet doesn't really exist anymore, it is NCSoft West!
