Far Cry 2 Gaining 'Hardcore' Multiplayer via Patch
by Chris Faylor, Feb 09, 2009 6:31pm PSTThe next wave of patches for Ubisoft Montreal's Far Cry 2 will bring a new "hardcore" multiplayer setting to the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 open-world shooter.
"The hardcore mode has been designed as an answer to a community request," Ubisoft community developer Atmon wrote on the game's official forums. "Some players were seeking and expecting a more realistic experience. "
The changes will be available in every multiplayer mode, bringing:
- A new damage model will be applied with increased damage for all weapons.
- All weapons have been rebalanced on normal mode, and on hardcore mode.
- Enemy names will disappear after the spawning invincibility period is over (A shield is displayed above a player’s head for a few second to show that he is invincible).
- A new option will allow you to tweak spawning time (but not spawning rate).
- A new search option will be available in multiplayer to allow you to find games that are playing on hardcore mode.
No word yet as to when the actual patch will arrive.

Get orders from random guy x, go kill random guy y.
Get orders from random guy c, go blow up random spot d.
Respawn, respawn, respawn. Gun jam. Respawn. Gun jam.
There is no continuity between any of the missions, and there is no story that advances the game between any of the missions. Everything is generic and random, enemy respawns are out of control, guns jam way too frequently (even with reliability upgrades) and fizzle out. Enemies will respawn 2 minutes after you blow up their outpost, and if you stick around long enough they'll respawn from air 5 feet from your character. There is no fun to this game.

I found that I enjoyed the lack of continuity in the missions, and that I could choose to do side missions if I wanted.
I also became quite adept at utilizing the weapons, to the point where I would take out the respawns with just my 45 (which I actually like using more than the Desert Eagle ooooo, shiny ) saving my AK/AR-16/Sniper RIfle for the hairy situations.
The graphics were great, and smooth.
Yeah, I'd give it a 9/10 (and I'd give fallout 3 a 9/10, but if you could take the smooth gameplay of FarCry 2 and combine it with the RPG elements of Fallout 3, I think I'd give that an 11/10)
