Dead Rising 2 Announced for PC, Consoles

Following constant teases and a viral video on Friday, Capcom today confirmed that The Bigs veteran Blue Castle is developing Dead Rising 2 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Following the original Xbox 360-only Dead Rising, which hit in 2006, the sequel will be set in the Las Vegas-inspired "gambling paradise of Fortune City." Capcom noted that the zombie virus is now "spreading unchecked throughout the United States."

The new setting is said to provide tens of thousands of zombies and a host of new weapons for open-world zombie-killing, such as a human-sized hamster ball. The original, which took place in a shopping mall, allowed players to combat zombies with mannequins, umbrellas, bowling balls, chainsaws, guns, lawn mowers, and more.

While Blue Castle was not involved in the development of the first game, which was handled internally at Capcom, the project will see contributions from the original Dead Rising team, with Capcom executive Keiji Inafune serving as producer.

No other specifics, such as a release date, were provided in today's announcement. However, Capcom officially released the video that was circulating last week:

Interesting choice for the PS3. It will probably be announced for the PS3 and later quietly canceled like a lot of other games. Makes me sad.
