Uncharted 2 Screenshots: Female Companionship

7

Ever the lady's man, Nathan Drake isn't just about to hop into a life-threatening situation alone. In the first Uncharted, he was accompanied by dirty blonde journalist Elena Fisher. This time around, he's all about teaming up with the dark-haired Chloe Fraze.

Developed by series creator Naughty Dog, the action-adventure sequel Uncharted 2: Among Thieves arrives as a PlayStation 3 exclusive at some point this fall.

Chris Faylor was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.

Ugh. I played Uncharted and Heavenly Sword on my roommate's PS3. Then he moved out.

At some point I'm going to have to buy one for this, God of War 3, etc. (and by etc. I don't actually know of any other titles that are for me must play PS3 games but those aforementioned two are enough to sway me).

Is Heavenly Sword worth checking out? The demo was alright, seemed more fun that DMC4...

If you enjoyed the gameplay in the demo and want to see more of the exquisite cutscenes, yes. It's great while it lasts. It is very short, though - rent it or buy it cheap.

I thought it was fun. It captures a lot of the fluidity of movement/combat that you might find in a God of War or DMC game, and also has some motion-sensitive mini-games (using the motion-sensitivity of the PS3 controller) that I found to be pretty good. It's also very cinematic, just like Uncharted.

I wouldn't say it has the same gameplay variety of some other action games in that there isn't a strong emphasis on optional weaponry and magical upgrades as are available in a game like DMC4 or Ninja Gaiden 2, so if you're hard-core into 3rd person action games, you may not like it. Once you get the basic weapon movement patterns down, you pretty much use them throughout the entire game.

Also... and this is a big also... you can't jump. I wouldn't let this turn anyone off to the game, but it takes some getting used to. The main character will jump when you perform combos, but that's it.

That said, it is a very solid game and also very strong visually. It is worth a rental or, I would think, worth $20 - $30 if you can find a copy of it used, on sale, or on the Internet.

Ah... if you've played the demo, you probably actually know some of what I typed; like that the character can't jump.

Uncharted is one of the few games I've played-through twice in the last few years (and I want to replay it again already). Fucking superb game. I love it. Can't wait for Uncharted 2.

With Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, God of War 3, and Gran Turismo 5 all coming out this year (not counting all the cross platform games), now is the time. Then again, maybe April is the time, I heard there could bea price drop.
