Battlefield Heroes Due by April
by Chris Faylor, Feb 03, 2009 3:15pm PSTDICE's free-to-play PC multiplayer shooter Battlefield Heroes will be released no later than March 31, 2009, according to financial documents from publisher Electronic Arts.
In the documents, the oft-delayed game is listed among the company's releases for its current fiscal quarter, which runs from the beginning of January to the end of March.
Revealed over a year ago, Heroes will be free-to-play through its web site, and will be supported financially by out-of-game ads and microtransactions for in-game items.

"Among the leaked features are some impressively large numbers: 56 total weapons, 48 total vehicles, and most stupefying of all, 40 vs. 40 battles. With teams that big, it's no wonder they're also reportedly adding a new tier to the squad mechanics introduced in Battlefield 2. Squads and the commander role return, but now three or four squads will form a battalion."

Another rumor was that it's only MEC vs USA, which means 24 vehicles each, which leaves a lot of large gaps that we can spend our time filling in with our favorite vehicles, just by taking BF2's vehicle set to list the essentials.
Combat Chopper, Transport Chop, APC, Jeep/Buggy, LightArmor(Humvee/etc), Tank, AA, Boat, Jet-Fighter, Fighter-Bomber. Even if you do something ludicrous and start counting static turret weapons like mounted machine guns, ship-based AA/Minigun (Essex), Infantry AT Mounts, and Infantry AA Mounts, there are still many vehicle types to speculate on.
The gaps could be filled with a few types of unarmed civilian vehicles (Truck/Motorbike) or a few technicals (pick up truck with a mounted MG), but I'd really like to hope it implies that mobile artillery vehicles akin to 1942 are returning. I suppose there will be micro-choppers (think Project Reality) entering the fray, too. So right now, I'm up to about 16 out of 24 vehicles for each army, except for the fact that I named 3 neutral faction vehicles, bringing it up to 35/48 total. So there's only 21 vehicles for each army, or maybe 20 if you wanna think a civilian motorboat might spawn for either side's use.
So what are the 4 other vehicles? Large-scale versions or small scale versions? Perhaps there are howitzer AND rocket-based artillery. Perhaps a second type of attack chopper. Maybe a C103 type of plane and a MEC fantasy equivalent. Maybe the armies won't be balanced. They sure weren't when BF2 launched (Blackhawk lol).
Maybe there will be support-versions of certain vehicles. Medivac chopper, Supply Truck. Things of that nature with a repair/heal aura around them.
What else is there to possibly add? The MEC doesn't really have a navy, so they wouldn't bring back controllable/sinkable ships would they? Plus, they'd need a mechanic to keep players from beaching the goddamn things since it seemed to be the first thing anyone did with the ships in BF1942.
Or maybe the rumor is just a rumor and there's no use in brainstorming the gap based on the mention that it'll be a modern/semi-future setting like BF2 was.

I think it looks fun. But I haven't tried it. If it is, in fact, not fun that would suck. But I sure don't think the look disqualifies it, and neither did he.
And if you have, after the press release that you're working on Bad Company 2 for 2010, you'd better be making an anouncement before you have a few thousand ticked off gamers at your door step. Talk about a stupid freaking marketing decision, who comes up with this stuff?
Give us info on BF3 Dice - no one really cares about BF Heroes. It looks retarded and unless they change massive things from the Beta, it also plays retardedly.

Every time someone brings up how this looks like TF2 or whatever...I'm water boarding an infant.
So far so good but my cellar is going to get some wicked water damage.

Also, not sure why people are comparing it to TF2, seeing as it's a third person shooter. Sure they both have an animated look, but they're completely different.

I'd rather play Team Fortress 2 or Quake Live ...
