Evening Reading

Continuing to play Far Cry 2 tonight. Continuing to be blown away.

I wish I had played this several months ago, but at the same time, now is a great time of the year to casually blow through a backlog of games.

The news worth recapping today:

    Bike People! repost

I just got fit on my new (first) road bike, a used 2005 Trek 5000! Check it out:

Those are the coolest pics, but the pics go from 1-12 if you want to see more. I'm upgrading from a hybrid bike, a Trek 7300 I got last year and rode for a lot before I decided I wanted something lighter for long rides. Waiting for the snow to melt now...

nice ride, dawg! Now make sure to not forget a spare tube + co2 cartridge + adaptor + tire-levers and perhaps a small pair of pliers for gettin out really stickler metal-slivers from your tire... getting a flat miles & miles out Realllly sux.

You're right, I need to get these things...but I also need to learn how to change tires. I guess I understand the concept after having read about it, but I should practice sometime or take a class I suppose.

It's not difficult. You'd be surprised how fast you can do it after one or two tries.

Oh yeah, always pack a spare tube and all the tools - I can't even count how many times I've gotten a flat way out in the ass end of nowhere.

The co2 is key. Hand pumps are for suckers.

$1000 for the bike, then another $600 for various upgrades (wheels/tires, crank/bottom bracket, saddle). Bike was ridden for 150mi according to the seller.

It's a 60cm frame, and I'm 6'4''...but during the fit session I had today, it was determined that due to my body shape (long legs/short torso) my arms weren't very cramped on this frame. Did require a new seatpost/stem though.

Wish I had known you were looking- I have a 60cm Surly Pacer built up I'm trying to sell. It's too long for me.

Steel frame eh? How does it ride compared to aluminum or carbon bikes?

Rides awesome. Not as spring-y or flexible as aluminum- I'm a big dude and the bike hardly flexes when I stand on it and pump.

Carbon's nice but I would never get a carbon bike for an everyday commuter or even a starter bike. It's too fragile.

For that price you got ripped off. I don't see an engine anywhere on that thing.

That's quite a step up from a hybrid. What did you pay for it?

Actually, I love my fixie. It's great for winter training and give a great feel for the road. I have 2 other road bikes with gears, though.

Why do Honda Civics exist? They're cheap, reliable, and you can ride them forever.

For cyclists, it's good strength training. For hipsters, it's looking cool and being ridiculously dangerous on the road.

It's not as dangerous as people make it out to be. I ride a fixed gear with no brakes but i ride very conservatively. I obey all traffic laws and never wear an ipod or any source of music so i can not only see traffic coming, but hear it as well.
