Evening Reading

Still haven't had a chance to check out the Fallout 3 DLC yet. Looks like there are some pretty mixed reactions. What do you all think?

Anyone played the Fallout DLC yet? How is it compared to the rest of the game? Is it the kind of thing you only want to buy if you've exhausted the base game's content or does it go above and beyond?

Is it a world inside a world (a simulation) that can be revisited or is it a one time mission?

I'm having the worst time trying to get this DLC to work.

First, I have to login and buy it through Games for Windows Live. Fine. That wasn't too hard.

Then, I start the game when logged into GFWL and my savegame is gone. Wonderful.

So I do some searching and find out that the only way I can play the DLC with my current savegame is to follow the directions in this thread: http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=947696&st=0

I do that, and no DLC. Finally, I realize that when launching the game after copying those files, I need to click Data Files and enable Anchorage.esm. Great. I do that, and finally the DLC appears to be working.

Oh, except for the crash to desktop as soon as I get the new radio beacon. And this is after never having any crashing problems with Fallout 3 ever. Fuck it, I give up for tonight.

It's literally the very first time I've had a problem with Fallout.

I have to say, FORCING people to be logged in to GFWL to play the new content but not being able to access your old savegames when logged in is a really stupid decision. Why make it hard for me to enjoy the game?

            Wait what?

Well okay, thanks for saving me from ever buying any Fallout DLC.

If you've been playing while logged in to GFWL, there's no problem there. But I never cared about gamer points on my PC, so I never bothered logging in.

When you log into GWL it makes a new save game location. Move you old same games to the new location and you can play them

According to the wiki and forums, the only way to do it is to copy the game files from the Xlive location into the fallout3/data folder and then enable the anchorage.esm.

it is the same way with the xbox unfortunately. anyone who plays their xbox loses all their save games when they decide to sign up for an xbox live account. cant hack the xbox to fix it like you can on pc. microsoft staffers not really thinking.
