The multiplayer beta test for Relic's RTS Warhammer: 40,000 Dawn of War II will open to the public today at 7:01 PM EST, publisher THQ has confirmed.
At that time, the free PC beta client will be available from Steam and the Games for Windows Live Marketplace, offering 4 playable races and 5 maps. Previously, players had to purchase the Dawn of War Soulstorm expansion to access the early beta.
The beta will run up until Dawn of War II ships to stores around February 19.

I was playing as Tyranids, my teammates were space marines. We were down to 34 points while they still had about 350, and most of our guys were dead. We then proceeded to build up our mechwarrior sized troops. I ended up with 3 Cerefix's or whatever they're called, along with the artillary guy(still learning the names) and the Lictor Alpha. I dragged in their commanders with fleshhooks, while the the 3 Cerefix's impaled the shit out of them, including enemy cerefix's, which they brilliantly sent in 1 at a time, while they met up with 2-3 of mine. My allies breached their territory, rounding up fleeing troops, and just before I was about to use the special ability to send up enormous spikes from the ground near the enemy, we had won the game with all remaining 34 points intact.
Anyone else have any epic tales of unexpected victory?
Why?
1. I have a duel core AMD x2 4800+, and the game engine HATES duel core amd cpu's :(
2. The patch they linked me to, which is simply AMD's "duel core optimizer" which supposedly "fixes" the problem does NOT work for me.
3. This is the ONLY game I've ever had 1 FPS performence issues, even on the opening movies! wtf!
4. Supreme Commander ran so much better before patches than this game, even in the beta.
I Love the DoW series, and want to try the game out, but I refuse to buy it until I can at least play it. It was on my "must buy week of release" list, but now it's on my "will not buy" list until I can actually get more than 1 frame per second.
Has anyone had the same issue and come across a fix? Help! DoW fan in distress!

I'll be playing Tyranids. I played Space Marines in DoW1, and they were fun, but I'm looking for a change. Tyranids look like they play differently that all the other races with their swarm mechanics, so I'm looking forward to some teeth on face action.

The game plays better with teams over single player, while thats all fine and dandy I would hope
they can do something to make 1vs whatever more fun. Too much focus on team play and Games for Windows sucks.
The game defiantly needs to be sped up a bit, requisition needs to come in a bit faster, power is fine. Need some 4 player free for all maps.
Oh and Relic about the DLC, if you're going to be charging $5 or $10 for a few maps I won't be buying them. I'd rather you guys stick with high quality expansions.

Oh, and just because you can run at ultra settings when you're playing nothing but computers doesn't mean you can run it at ultra in a real MP game. I dropped from 40-50 fps vs computers to 20-30 vs players.

Anyone else getting incredibly annoyed at how the game constantly crashes at all times and takes 10+ minutes to find a match? I this was just a firewall/connection issue on my end, but I know it's not. oh well, $50 saved if I can't get this going in the next few days. :)

Steep learning curve is unfortunate, I'm guessing a lot of people will get turned off simply because they can't figure out how to play, but that's been half the fun so far.
