Fallout 3 'Operation Anchorage' DLC Released
by Nick Breckon, Jan 27, 2009 1:47am PSTThe first DLC pack for Bethesda's Fallout 3, "Operation Anchorage," has been released.
The content includes a virtual reality simulation of the infamous liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from Fallout lore. Stealth gameplay has been emphasized in the new missions, with a "Covert Ops" perk joining the addition of various weapons, armor and achievements.
Operation Anchorage sells for 800 Microsoft Points ($10) on Xbox 360 and PC. The DLC will unfortunately not be making its way to the PlayStation 3 version of the game.
A second DLC pack titled "The Pitt," set in the vicinity of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will be released in late February. The Broken Steel pack, expected for a March release, will increase the level cap to 30 and allow players to continue adventuring beyond the end of the game's storyline.

EA completely fucked up digital delivery, I assume MS did as well. Does MS expect you to pay again to download again?

Having to buy this on Windows inferior live service is so ridiculous. I posted this on Steam earlier, but it's relevant to the topic:
The problem with LIVE is that it's a completely backwards system that is being introduced on the PC where we have had far better alternatives for years. On the console you don't have much of a choice, here we have established systems that work far better. As an in game system for handling multiplayer games, LIVE is horrible. Compare any game where LIVE handles multiplayer connectivity to a game like COD4 where the server browser is exactly what we on the PC are used to. LIVE isn't easier, it's gimped. As for the digital store, they use carnival money...seriously, microsoft points? If you are going to introduce a system for purchasing games, introduce something better than what is already out there. Steam is the best, LIVE is not even close to being as good as Steam, so why should I settle for LIVE? People will say that when Steam came along it wasn't accepted right away and then over time it got better. This is true, but it was all we had at the time and it is seriously the best thing that PC gaming has going for it now. LIVE is coming out as an imitation of something that is established, and their imitation is not nearly as good. I refuse to buy games that aren't on steam now, it's convenient, it's the best system, and it's a company that won't try to sell me carnival money. They're improving it constantly for the sake of improving it and not because they have to. Windows LIVE is an insult to PC gaming and cannot be taken seriously unless they can offer a better service than Steam, and sell games for real money.

This all in the name of reducing piracy ! Go Microsoft !
While playing Fallout 3 the game will freeze and go non-responsive after anything from 1 minute to 20 minutes.
Started a new game: still happened.
Uninstalled Fallout 3 and reinstalled and repatched: Still happens.
Intalled new Video Drivers (Nvidia 181.22) and new Soundcard drivers: Still happens.
System:
OS: Vista 64
CPU: Intel Q9650 Stock speed
Video Card: EVGA 8800GTS 512MB Stock Speed
Was not having any issues before install of DLC.
Any Ideas?

"But I will say that if my girlfriend were ever to find out that I'd spent seven quid out of our joint account on 150 minutes of gameplay that I only half-enjoyed, she'd kick me in the face."
Score: 5/10

What I don't like about it is the exclusivity deal. Sure it's business and it happens, but if you're Bethesda you end up alienating part of the community. I happen to prefer steam as I think it is a superior service that is not as intrusive as Live (See GTA 4 for an example). Since there are no other alternatives at the moment, then I'm not going to buy it, its really that simple. I'll just wait for it to hit retail.

Is GFWL like steam where it knows what I've purchased and allows me to redownload my stuff as much as I need to?
I've always wondered about this with all those XboX people who suffer thru RedRing issues.
