Midway: More Mortal Kombat on the Way

Hidden away within a press release regarding shipment figures for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was the first official word that Midway is planning another series entry.

"We're already hard at work on our next version of Mortal Kombat, and look forward to being able to reveal more details in the future," said franchise co-creator Ed Boon.

While the publisher did not disclose how many copies of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe have actually been sold, it did note that "approximately 1.8 million units" of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 fighter have been shipped since its November 16 release.

Midway is currently $240 million in debt and facing possible bankruptcy in February.

YEEEES! more MK! i agree MK vs DC was a huge success but i was disappointed with the tone down in violence. i mean seriously, the violence is what skyrocketed it to fame. DC blows for wanting to tone down MK and i can never forgive them for that. but, i admit MK vs DC is still an awesome game. i own it and still play it. as a fan tho, T rated MK games = epic fail. hopefully this next one (if it comes out) goes back to its roots

no pc means no buy for me. so make it like MK3, ship it on PC, 360, PS3, PS2, Wii etc, provide us with cross-platform multiplayer and it may be huge.

I expect if/when Midway goes under, somebody will snatch up the MK dev team/IP. Love or hate the games, its too big a name to let fall by the wayside.

I really hope this is a wakeup call that has Boon/Tobias thinking that crossing M content with T content = F in sales. What epic fail indeed. Now if they were to mashup a lil killer instinct with some MK then well, I think I'd buy that.
