F.E.A.R. 2 Demo Released

By Maarten Goldstein, Jan 22, 2009 5:30am PST

As had been expected, a F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin PC demo is now available and can be downloaded from FileShack. An Xbox 360 demo has been released as well, now available from the console's online marketplace, with a PS3 demo due later today.

The demo is a 1.76GB download and offers a glimpse at what you can expect from Monolith's horror action game sequel, which hits stores February 10 for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

  • I played this last week on the PS3 and today on 360 and PC. If you are going to go with one go with the PC version, but if you have a crappy PC, then the 360 version is the way to go. The controls just feel better on the 360 controllers, especially because the triggers are better than the PS3 ones. Leaning has been taken out, and after replaying half of F.E.A.R. last night on extreme, the game does feel a bit easier this time on the hardest difficulty, although it is just a demo so I cannot say for sure. However, the same outstanding action is here as well as the great AI. The AI is just as good in the first game, with them flanking, flushing, creating cover by opening car doors or flipping tables, and using suppressing fire. I am dissapointed that the replicas do not speak to each other. I used to love hearing them saying `Flush him out`` and knowing I need to get my ass in gear to get the fuck out before I die, hearing them coordinate a flank, or hearing that they have `3 men down`or that they need reinforcements, meaning that although you cannot see them they are down to either 1 or 2 in their team. It did not make the game easier, if anything it really helped at the higher difficulties because the AI was do damn awesome. Hopefully we see it in the full game, but the demo shows it as being removed, which is extremely sad. The only time I heard them speak was right at the beginning of the demo when a replica kills a civilian.

Overall the scares are better with Monolith having refined their art with the Condemned series, and the weapons are just as awesome. I cannot wait to use the nailgun again. Day 1 purchase for me.
