F.E.A.R. 2 Takes on F.E.A.R. In Comparison Videos

by Nick Breckon, Jan 21, 2009 3:58pm PST

Monolith has released a pair of brief trailers that touch on the difference between F.E.A.R. and its upcoming sequel. Apparently, the difference is that the new game has been taken "to the next level."

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin hits PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on February 10.

Check below the fold for a weapon comparison.

  • So I guess that the human body in the F.E.A.R. universe holds 100 pints of blood that gushes out in prefabricated amorphous splotches with light reflecting off of it as though it was coated in polished resin.

I kid, but those bloodsplat sprites look a little too cartoony. Perhaps the modeling of gushing blood is the next frontier of FPS graphics development. I guess it's all good as long as it looks close in full motion, and doesn't slow the game down (I remember the original F.E.A.R. stopping for a split second almost every time I shot an alarm bell, railing, or something metal, resulting in a shower of sparks; then again I haven't updated my F.E.A.R. install past the first patch, mostly out of the irrational fear that the FarCry 1.2 patch instilled after it nerfed the AG36 grenade launcher in singleplayer).
