'Very Different' Team Fortress 2 Mode Coming 'Soon'
by Nick Breckon, Jan 20, 2009 4:13pm PSTTeam Fortress 2 developer Robin Walker has teased a new, "very different" mode will soon be added to the stylistic multiplayer shooter.
"A new Payload map is in the works, more community maps are on the way and the team will soon unveil a very different new game mode," writes The Escapist in a story on Walker and the team at Valve.
Walker also revealed that while the team is primarily focusing on bolstering the game's existing classes, it does have a running list of candidates for an entirely new class.
"We've got several new class designs floating around, some of which we like a lot, but right now we're focusing on the broadening of our existing classes through the addition of the unlockables," said Walker.

24/7 2fort servers all up and down the server browser. Most are always full with 16+ players.
Theres NOTHING wrong with TF2 CTF. There just happens to be other modes, if you get bored.
Still fun, still being played. Sometimes utter chaos is just what I want.
Meh to these comments.
Payload is a heavily under-utilized gamemode that has a lot of interesting possibilities. Badwater Basin failed to achieve this by just being what Goldrush should have been. Some of the best ideas that have been thrown around are for a large cart in which buildings can be constructed or the Engineers can directly upgrade the structure to have weapons, dispensers, etc. Having two carts where each team must beat the other team to their respective bases could be fun, as well as a neutral cart.
While the class packs are fun for a week they are gimmicky and fail to add anything substantive. A new class could remedy this as long as it is properly introduced. It needs to fill a role that no other class can and not just be "cool". The Sandvich is "cool", does it do anything for the game? No. This mystery class can't be half-assed either, like the class packs or I will be very upset.
It's hit or miss really, sometimes we get a gem like the Flare Gun that expands gameplay and looks good. Then we get the KritzKrieg with a silly name, a texture that is messed up, and is a piece of shit when used. Valve apparently didn't get it that the uber is incredibly decisive and whichever team manages to push through best with ubercharges, wins. The KritzKrieg has no such abillity. Then there's Natascha which no one in their right mind ever uses and hasn't be altered once in five months. I swear to god Valve must be paranoid that if they try to rebalance the game someone will murder them in their sleep. They hardly touch anything... or for that matter, fix graphical bugs over the course of half a year. There are animations that still play twice as fast as they should, textures that appear low resolution on max settings, etc.

For example, your teammates can pass right through you pretty much (especially the dispenser/sentry) But it sometimes bothers me that my own guys can stop my rockets or any other projectile I lob towards an enemy. Not that it's anything major, but I hate wasting rockets or demo grenades when my guys jump in front of my shots :P
Valve, please let me use an FOV bigger than 90 and mat_picmip -10 in the next patch please :)

Also, far too much random crap too. Crits are the most obvious and probably the most hated, but every weapon does random normal damage too, sometimes within a huge range that can easily determine wether you win or lose. Why should one pipe instagib a medic but another pipe only scratch him?
It makes a mockery of actually learning and getting good at a class when your damage output is utterly random.

And as for my idea: I don't think there's even room for another class, every workable avenue has already been explored and put into practice :(

Also, has anyone played this version of canalzon? http://tf2.digitaljedi.com/2008/canalzone-final-released/
Even though it's a regular CP style gameplay, it still looks good.

The quickest way to ruin Team Fortress is to start adding new classes. There's a reason these nine classes (or slight variations thereof) have been around since the original game. They simply work. They work well together yet each is significantly different enough not to muddle any roles.
Please don't ruin this game, Valve.
Oh, and adding a Civilian player for Hunted (if that's the new game mode) is fine. That's not technically a new class, it's a special role for a specific gametype.

Anyway, I have this on 360 now (again x2) with the Orange Box but NO ONE plays it on Live...it's amazing. Maybe it's because the console versions have been shafted as far as updates go (No achievements for individual classes or the new class unlockables) or maybe the console player is into more military-themed FPS combat. I just don't see how they overlook the supremely polished gameplay, levels, graphics and characters. It all just shines with Triple-A Quality.
Alas, I also bought a copy of the standalone version of TF2 for PC as I had to have that thriving community I knew with Half Life, where mods sprouted out of the woodwork and it seemed that almost every one was worth playing. Where every server was packed to the brim and there were thousands to choose from. I can welcome myself back into that fold again. Note, I also bought the Silver pack when HL2 was coming out, pre-ordered and all so it went along nicely with my other Steam downloads. (SiN:Ep One being amongst them... that one really fell through Ritual, hope you enjoyed my money for one tenth of a plot line!)

By the time Valve is done updating this game, the amount of free updated content will add up to more than most paid expansion packs. Valve, I forgive you for keeping this game in development hell for all those years!
