Morning Discussion
by Chris Faylor, Jan 19, 2009 4:50am PSTAlright, so my plans to get a new PC up and running across the weekend weren't exactly realized. And sure, my replacement Guitar Hero guitar was broken out of box, and my DVR entirely ignored its scheduled recording of Battlestar Galactica, but so what?
That doesn't mean I'm having one of those mysterious weeks where I somehow render complex and robust electronic devices useless with a mere touch. This is just a streak of hilariously bad luck, all packed into a few days. And just because I haven't had heat because it's "too cold" for my heater to function, well, that's one funny coincidence.
But it's a new week! New beginnings! New opportunities! That is, assuming we can all get past the dreaded Monday. And hey, Fringe returns tomorrow! Lost on Wednesday! It'll be a good week, you've just gotta believe. Like Parappa! Please, please believe. Please.

After looking at it being #1 in weekly sales again, I was wondering if there was anything in there for new players since it's Northrend high lvl stuff, and the Death Knight requires you already have a lvl 50 or 55 something character.
It doesn't matter so much if you've never played it. There's a lot of content for new players. But I'm wondering about Blizzard's strategy for new customers, and it seems a lot of the appeal is in getting people to join in with ya. Tell your friend, encourage them to level up to experience the high end content. So I wonder if many of those sales come from people already playing, or have played before... how many of you quit and are going back to it with the new expansion? Many of my friends and family have. lol I will be soon.

I'm an old guy who doesn't get out or listen to the radio. Plus I live in Kansas... so we have limited exposure to good, new music. These limitations aside, I'm on the hunt for new albums.

My second attempt at the Submarine School Convoy attack went much better. I did some basic torpedo training a bunch of times and got used to the mechanics by watching this youtube while playing:

It was helpful at getting the aiming mechanics down. So I re-attempted the convoy attack, got in to a position ahead of the convoy, and a Large Modern Tanker passed within 1,000 yards of the front of my sub. I fired all four of my fore torpedoes at it, and they all hit the same spot. But the ship listed slightly, got lower in the water, started smoking, but did not sink. The three escorts went ballistic, but I was already rigged for silent running and on my way back down below the thermal layer. They circled for a while but did not find me - nor did they fire any depth charges, which mean they really didn't know wtf.
I had to save and quit at that point, but this went much better than the last time. Next time I try I'm going to ignore the Large Modern Tankers and hit several of the medium merchants instead.

In terms of games i would want just fun little games like Labyrnith - something i can just have a bit of fun with. Any suggestions?

Everything in the article mirrors what you'll hear from us about the move from 32-bit to 64-bit. If you have an existing 32-bit XP or Vista install that works fine, more power to you. However, 4GB RAM is shortly becoming the standard for most systems and a 64-bit OS utilizes all of that RAM with the capability of adding tons more, when you decide to add it.
TL;DR - There isn't a compelling reason to stick with 32-bit unless you've got some old hardware/software that won't work in a 64-bit environment.

The difference between a skilled player and someone completely new is just so vast, and probably in alot of ways a big hurdle for bring new players into QuakeLive later on.
I was skeptical after the BF series and them taking everything to a new level with vehicles and the more team based aspects, but dammit, being the only player left on your team and taking out 2 or 3 guys on the other team for a win, still sends that jolt of adrenaline through me, which I can't say many games do anymore.
