well this thing is mostly chopped up bits from that first big Halo movie that came out months ago along with a couple of Germans saying "Ach schein bin mit der POOP-ON!" There's about 30 seconds of new footage at the end, basically of the aliens and marines shooting in each other's general direction without hitting anything.

I thought it was pretty good how they fit, what, six minutes worth of movie into only 11 megs.

And also, if you don't want to have to deal with the streaming stuff over the net, you can probably just right-click it and hit "Save Target As."

I disagree. WMP isn't that bad. Apart from it being an MS format that non-MS people can't view, ASF is a pretty decent format, if done right.

Theres a good chance it was encoded half-assedly.

Unfortunately, what you probably need to do, (if the file isn't just fucked) is set up a local "web server" so that it thinks that its not getting it right from the HDD. It probably wants to go through the TCP/IP stack or something. Then you go & connect to yourself & watch away. w00p!

ASFs can look as good as MPGs they were sourced from easily if the conversion and encoding process is done right. They can look better and have a smaller file size if an ASF and an MPG are both encoded from the same lossless format. MPG1 is getting quite outdated, and most ASFs are based on a progression of the format - MPEG4.

Also, Quicktime IS a fuckup. Sorenson is a nice codec, but the Quicktime player is both hideously ugly and breaks so many interface guidelines it isn't funny. It is also very unstable, particulary the plugin, which can simply be crashed by trying to remove the MIME types it likes to takeover (yeah Apple, I want to play MIDIs back through QT, thanks).

ASFs have a good balance between compression and picture quality, assuming its encoded properly.

I'll tell you what sucks . Windows Media Player. Yeah, that 11 meg video looked good. There were about 8 frames in the whole thing. The detail of the clips made me think I had sneezed on the screen and not realized it.

OK, as much as everyone moaned before we got threads, they haven't been put to use much. Reply to this thread if you think WMP sucks ass.

Last I checked, there was absolutely nothing wrong with G.I. Joe (the 80's old school G.I. Joe though, not that boring-ass golden-age shit and not that godawful glow-in-the-dark psychoalphadiscobeta shit that was re-released)

So far, combat looks like an episode of GIJOE. A bunch of laser blasts and pretty lights, but no blood, and nobody dies... =( Explosions would be nice too, guys are pumping out rounds and missiles, but nothing is blowing up. C'mon Bungie. Give us what we want. How about english versions of these friggin movies while you're at it...We tried to exterminate the Germans for a reason.(j/k you morons out there)
