Red Alert 3 PC Expansion Priced, Detailed
The expansion pack, titled Uprising, will initially be available only through digital download services. Though Electronic Arts has not independently confirmed the figure, it previously hinted at a lower-than-typical price for the game.
"Part of the reason why we decided to become a digital download was so that we could pass some of the savings onto all of you out there," said EA community manager Apoc earlier this week. "We realize that times are tough, so we are making sure that Uprising will be a great value and something that any Command & Conquer fan can afford. More on the exact price in the weeks to come."
Rather than adding a fourth faction, Uprising will focus on new units and additional story, with a fourth mini-campaign centered around the commando Yuriko. While no co-op or multiplayer will be included, the skirmish mode will be bolstered with a "huge number of new maps." A new "Commander's Challenge" mode will provide a set of 50 mini-missions presenting various challenges.

I will reward this behavior by purchasing RA3 + Expansion from steam when the time comes. I would have already bought RA3, as I am a fan of the series, but it fell behind a massive line of great games.

I only played the demo of CC3, never got into it enough to buy. Which perhaps is saying a lot, because I buy way too many games. I live outside of my gaming means on the damned regular.
I think RA3 is cool for a number of ways that may not be directly related to the gameplay itself. And that's nothing bad. The game plays just like the other Red Alerts, and I was extremely relieved to find this out. What draws me to the game the most is the shitty-awesome-Metallica-era hard rock queuing up and playing exactly when I launch an attack on an enemy base. Or seeing Tim Curry in a live-action sequence as a Russian. Or hearing that my funds are insufficient again.
8 or so years have gone by since RA2, and at the time just over 3 years had gone by since the first RA. The release of RA3 was expertly delayed, in my opinion, and proves to me that I don't need new shit every time I install a game. I want my Red Alerts to be the same. If I was going to be made to capture resource points a-la CoH, I would have started breaking faces.
So, the familiar gameplay, music, voice effects, useless German Shepherds, and live action sequencecs after so many years without is at the root of why I love it.
I was enjoying the shit out of playing one night, against a Hard PC opponent, and decided I'd launch a fairly big attack on their base. Within seconds I knew I was going to lose, and lose fucking badly. That's when motherfucking RANDY COUTURE shows up on my screen telling me he's going to kick my ass. I was fucking cracking up, borderline cheering 'n shit, and at that moment the game instantly became one of my all-time favorites. Not because of anything groundbreaking, or because of Randy, but because it's a excellent shout-out to a worthy franchise crafted by Westwood in the 90's. EA can suck a bag of cocks regarding everything else, but I applaud them for their presence of mind on this one. They didn't change anything that needed to be, and added fun shit all the way through that I've seen so far. And the online muliplayer plays brilliantly. Zero lag.
The Japanese units seem badass, too, and I haven't tried playing as them yet. There's a lot I haven't seen, but I don't need to see anymore to make a fanboi call. It's a great time. Kudos EA, this shit won't happen again.
