Ok... I think I have managed to fight off the urge to buy one of those fancy 17"

Macbook Pros. I had to do a dns block of apple.com and freeze my credit card in a block of

ice, but I managed. I'll be ok. Damn it I think I'm gonna buy one. CRAP CRAP CRAP.

  • Hey guys (and gals), I thought I would give you a heads up about my xbox experience yesterday in case any of you are thinking of buying one (or another one lol) in the near future. I bought a falcon-spec xbox 360 in May 2007. Yesterday, after some random weirdness the last few days, it went belly up and red ringed on me last night.

However, when I bought it, I got it from Best Buy, and bought the additional Best Buy two-year warranty plan, because I've read over and over on the shack how unreliable they are (and, lo and behold, they are unreliable!). Here's basically the experience I had a Best Buy last night when I brought in my xbox, my original receipt, and my warranty information:

The Best Buy representative took my xbox and told me to go pick out another one from the store. I went and found a Jasper-spec machine on the shelf (which was also a holiday bundle with Lego Indy and Kungfu Panda!), and brought it back to the customer service counter. After a few minutes of working with the computer, I was given the brand new xbox on the spot, was told my warranty was still valid since it was less than one year (within one year, they will replace the machine how ever many times you need it without question; after a year, you can replace it once and then have to sign up for a new warranty), and handed a $55 store credit card because my original purchase price was $349 (for a 20 gig system), and now the price is $299 (for the 60 gig system), so they credited me the difference.

So, to sum up, since I purchased my xbox at Best Buy and bought the extra warranty, I was able to walk into the store and exchange my broken falcon 20 gig xbox with a new 60 gig Jasper bundled with two games with no questions asked, given a store credit for the recent price drop, and told I could do it again if I needed to, all within a 15 minutes.

I highly recommend that anyone buying an xbox do exactly what I just did. It was completely painless, and frankly, kinda awesome. :)
