Sony Could Post $1.1 Billion Loss for 2008
by Nick Breckon, Jan 13, 2009 1:40pm PSTReuters is reporting that Sony's yearly losses may mount to $1.1 billion by the time its 2008 fiscal year ends in March.
If proven true, the loss would be the first in 14 years of operation for Sony.
Sony had already begun to brace for the impact of the economic recession in December, announcing plans to slash its workforce by 16,000.
Reuters speculates that the electronic giant will need to adopt more drastic tactics if it posts a loss of that magnitude, including the firing of additional full-time workers and the sale of its financial unit.

But I think sony is going for more of a long term goal for the PS3. They are hoping it will be 'the system' to own like the PS2 was/is. I keep waiting for that say when the price drops and people start buying more Playstation 3's. I know I will get one eventually and play every game I missing.
Also White Knight Chronicles looks awesome. And getting FF13 earlier wouldn't hurt.

Where Sony is having issues is uh, every where else. At least in America. Pressure from Korean manufactures are lowering profits in the home theater market. The "Walkman" brand (and all other mobile audio devices) has been dead since the iPod. Their cell phones divistion, Sony Ericson, is a joke. Pro and Pro-sumer digital camera sales are dominated by Canon and Nikon, as Sony has only recently attempted a real DSLR, and there are so many players in consumer digital camera market, I don't see how that could be generating enough money to hold up the company.
