Best Buy Game Sales Down in December

11
Retailer Best Buy today released its December sales data, revealing a single-digit decline in videogame sales.

"Video gaming comparable store sales declined by the mid single digits, primarily due to a shift toward software and reduced sales of large-ticket consoles," said Best Buy in a release.

Best Buy's gaming decline is in sharp contrast to videogame-specific retailer GameStop, which recently boasted a 22% increase in year-over-year holiday sales.

Actually, there are some stuff that BBY marks up. What's really strange is that the black X360 controller batteries have just about a 5 dollar markup over everyone else. I see them at all the local stores for about 12 bucks but they sell them for about 16 there.

I'd rather go to bestbuy for my games instead of going into gamestop. I feel dirty going into gamestop.

They haven't been as aggressive in pricing the games as they have in the past. Used to be when Circuit City was a factor, BB would come out with a $10 discount on many games during the week of their release but they hardly do that anymore.

I think CompUSA leaving retail made it possible for BB to keep their games priced higher, and not do that "$49 game comes out at $39 for first week" that they used to do a LOT of.

It's kinda sad that Best Buy is going to become the sole big box electronic store, with Circuit City in the shape that it's in and with CompUSA out of the picture. Hope something comes along to keep the competition fierce.

Games are the same price as anywhere... but unlike Gamestop, Best Buy will actually have games on release day without the need for a preorder, and without shoving preorder and strategy guide offers down my throat.

      Still perfer Steam though.
