Best Buy Game Sales Down in December

What's with some of the Gamestop/EB Games hate around here? Granted that they aren't exactly the best company out there, but what's with the whining about a 5 dollar pre-order, it goes towards the price of the game and it's not like it's a mark up. It also quarantees you a copy on release date where sometimes Best Buy will get their shipment a couple of days behind sometimes. There are occasions where there are shortages of a release at Gamestop but that's just as much the fault of the distributors for not meeting the agreed upon allotment of units. Preorders help the company gauge how popular a release might be and they always try to get extra units for walk ins on release day and usually get replenishments several times in the few days afterwards.

And before anyone talks shit, I've work for both companies several years ago, so I have a good knowledge of how they run their shit. I'm not saying that they deserve a free pass but at the same time I don't think they should get bashed when it isn't justified.

if gamestop/EB is gaining sales, that means others are probably losing them (amongst other factors).

i didnt buy a single game this holiday season from any store. it didnt have anything to do with the economy. i just didnt have any interest in anything thats been released in the past month. seriously, worst christmas line up ever.

I prefer to purchase from Best Buy instead of GameStop. At GameStop, there is a chance they will sell your pre-order for the next big game and you can't get your game until the next shipment. At retail stores like Best Buy, they usually have a dozen copies at any given time. So much easier.

That said, I usually play PC games and there hasn't been much out that interests me at a $50 price point. Because of that, I haven't bought anything lately. I suppose the only thing out that somewhat interests me is Left4Dead and C&C: Red Alert 3, but personally, I can't justify spending $50 on either. I'll buy one if I ever manage to catch a sale.
