New Fallout 3 DLC Screenshots

Three new screenshots from the Fallout 3 DLC Operation Anchorage have been released, showing more from the pack, which is set inside the game's virtual reality simulator.Due out later this month, Operation Anchorage will set you back 800 Microsoft Points ($10). I am kind of disappointed with the art direction. Fallout 3 nailed the "stuck in the 50s" design that all technology took until the bombs dropped in 2077 and was in the previous games. Here it looks like an average military soldier, and some high tech ninja that would be at home in Dark Sector. Hrmm....

Looks cool. I just can't shake the feeling that the Fallout franchise is getting a little bit cheated here. Fallout games are all about the post apocalyptic landscapes, hopeless futures, and survival of who ever has the biggest guns. Trying to call a military operation between two well intact super powers a Fallout game or even a Fallout DLC doesn't seem right.

None the less I'll probably buy it. I'll just cringe a little when I click the purchase button.

Any word on if you get to keep any gear / items from this DLC in the real game? (My guess is no since this is a virtual reality simulation or something?)

I always hate DLC in games where you can't continue to play after you beat it, I always feel like I have to beat the game again after completing the DLC or else my game file isn't complete (IE: Mass Effect was the same way)

I haven't played fallout 3 yet. So why is it every time they show screenshots there are no shadows of any kind? Is it an option they don't turn on for some reason? I find it hard to believe in this day and age that a 3D engine can't do realtime shadows in some form, at least stencil shadows. Can someone illuminate me?

It makes the environment look incomplete to me. Objects sticking out like a sore thumb. The scene would look so much cooler with the addition of realtime shadows.

Thats why I really don't get how people can say this game looks so good. It doesnt to me, it looks incomplete and cheap.
