Harmonix: No Rock Band 3 in 2009

17
During a keynote interview at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier today, Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopolous told the crowd that his company was "breaking the annual cycle" of Rock Band releases, indicating that Rock Band 3 would not be released in 2009.

"We've actually made a choice to break out of the annual release cycle for Rock Band this year," said Rigopolous, according to CrispyGamer.

"[This is] partly because the annual cycle places limits on the choices you can make as a developer. We're trying to take a long term view," he added, while also citing Harmonix's upcoming Beatles music game--set for release around holiday 2009--as a focal point for the company this year.

When asked whether the sequel would involve keyboards, as has been rumored, Rigopolous replied: "The only answer I can give you to that question right now is maybe."

Last thing they need is to have a year numbering their games.

Good to see they aren't going to over do their franchise unlike the previous one they created.

I wonder if this is because of that Beatles game they are doing? After RB2 coming out 10 months after RB1 I was expecting that trend to continue or get worse.

Oh, I see now the story mentions this Beatles game. Hello eyesight.

They didn't overdo GH. They did 2 Guitar Heroes and the 80's game. That's pretty close to RB1+2 and the Beatles game coming out next year.

GH1, GH2, GH3, GH World Tour, GH Aerosmith, GH 80's and 2 DS GH titles...
Believe me they are overdoing it.

Except Harmonix only made GH1, GH2, and Rocks the 80s.

The people in charge of the franchise now are overdoing it, I agree, but it's not Harmonix.

Neversoft is running the franchise into the ground and unfortunately people assume that Harmonix is still behind it.

I don't think that anyone who knows who Harmonix is thinks that.

That's why I only mention it as the franchise they created. Probably could have been more specific but I wanted to allude to their past product under Activision.
