Saints Row 2 PC Hits Steam, Gets European Date
by Chris Faylor, Jan 07, 2009 10:28am PSTJust one day after unspecified issues delayed the Steam release of Saints Row 2 on PC, the open-world game is now available through Valve's digital distribution platform.
The title is also available for digital download via Direct2Drive, though as with the retail version, buyers will be required to install Steam to authenticate and play the PC release.
Presently, the PC release is only available in the Americas, but developer Volition has announced that it will hit Europe on January 23 and Australia on February 5.
The PC version of Saint's Row 2 follows the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 edition, which launched in October 2008.

1. No out of the box support for 16:9 aspect ration resolutions (I run 1920x1080). A user-made application was posted on the SR2 forums last night to modify the resolution in the .dat file, but still, why are these resolutions missing out of the box?
2. The menu's received no love. We're running this game on PC's. PC's have these things call MICE, perhaps you've heard of them? Left Control and Left shift to move between "tabs"? Give me a break...
3. Vehicle Steering is almost a game breaker. Upon the lightest tap of left or right, the vehicles steering wheels will instantly travel their full range, and your vehicle will lurch 30 degrees to the left or right. Makes driving the fast vehicles a nightmare.
4. Performance is a little iffy. It tends to stutter at the oddest moments. Overall, it runs well on my rig set to High(E8400, 8800GTX's in SLI, 4GB RAM, Vista64) though SLI is not kicking in (drivers please!) and it tends to stutter at the oddest moments. Performance IMPROVED once I used the tool to change my resolution from 1280x1024 to 1920x1080. I can't figure that one out.
Overall, the game is fun, but far from a good port.
