'Major' Gears of War 2 Patch Due This Month

A "major" Gears of War 2 (360) update should resolve a number of exploits, latency issues, and add achievement progress tracking later this month, writes developer Epic.

"We're fixing a whole bunch of online exploits," Epic VP Mark Rein posted on the game's official forums. "For example we've fixed the ability to wield an invisible shield, melee through some walls, gain infinite Lancer ammo and equip a shield and a two-handed weapon simultaneously plus many more."

While Rein said that this was just a "very small list of some of the things that will be in the next title update," other promised tweaks include increased penalties for quitting matches early, more spawn protection against planted grenades and chainsaws, a more reliable shotgun in laggy matches, achievement tracking, and DLC achievements.

Didn't they have this same cycle in GoW1? Patch to fix some exploits introduced new exploits?

Yes, a game will always have exploits, people will find them and use them, but the number and the obviousness of some in Gears2 really questions how well Epic QA'd this.

It didn't really even get better after the patch. You still have to do the cancel/start matchmaking cycle to get a game going.

Actually, I played for the first time after the patch last night and we were in a game within seconds after we started the search process every time. That was with 3 guys initially, then 4 and 5 after 3 or so games.
