Evening Reading
by Steve Gibson, Jan 05, 2009 6:41pm PSTSo after seeing the lady be so insanely thrilled with her new Macbook I had decided
that when the new 17" Macbook Pro comes out I'll finally get a new laptop for myself.
The only problem is my current laptop really isnt bad. This is an issue that not even a
nice tax write off can solve. Damn it! I'm going to go jogging with my laptop and see if
it "slips" on to the concrete tomorrow I think. Total coincidence.

I'm hoping for the 17" new style unibody macbook pro. The only thing that would keep me from buying one is if they are significantly heavier than the current 17" or if that rumor about the fixed non removable battery are true.
It's too bad they will likely be glossy screen only. Chances are the keynote will be something lame like an ipod nano or some imac revision.

Company email this morning:
-- Effective January 1, the Company’s matching contribution to the HSNi 401(k) Plan will be reduced to $.10 for each dollar from its current $.50. The match will continue to be on the first 6% each employee invests. Despite this reduction, the 401(k) Plan remains an important benefit for each of you and we know you will want to continue to take advantage of it as a savings/investment tool. Of course, if you have any questions, please let your HR representative or your manager know and we will respond immediately.

In the original Matrix, the fights are brilliant in their execution and are pitched at perfect points in the story for excitement and satisfaction, also as was pointed out by another there was real tension to the fights - especially any involving the agents - because there was so much at stake.
In Reloaded, the fights are stylishly choreographed, the music is brilliant, there are tons of excellent flourishes but ultimately they are empty (hence the video game comparisons) because there's practically no danger to the fights, everyone seems superpowered and they sort of awkwardly crop up in amongst a lot of blahblahblahblah.
So in the end, on a technical level the fightscenes in Reloaded are spectacular and fun to watch, probably more fun to watch on their own than the individual fights from the original, however the most successful action scenes - in my opinion - are ones that drive the story and actually evoke emotion from you while you're watching.

Issue: Needs to be cheap (like 300~ 400 max~) and it cant look like a TURD. Its going to sit on my entertainment center in plain sight so i want it to look good
Newegg: yeah im sure everyone is saying "DUH just order the parts and make a HTPC yourself" Well yeah that's a great idea but for 300 - 400 i don't think this is doable.
I seriously considered the MSI Desktop Wind for about 10 minutes.... then realized it doesn't have the balls to play HD content... It seems after looking at many of these out of the box mini PC HTPC slim line smashups that they simply just cant play hi def content.
I wonder why people buy these things
help, thx

What should I use?
Windows Media Center only?
GB-PVR?
SageTV?
Hardware recommendations would be welcome as well. I'm trying to keep this as budget conscious as possible.

Since last night I've been noticing a delay in my browser performance. It takes between 10 and 20 seconds before any given page even begins to load. For instance, my homepage is Google, if I open a new Tab in Firefox to go there the new tab opens up, it reads "looking up Google, com" for a very long time before I finally hit the page and it loads up. My first thought that there was either something wrong or a conflict of sorts with one of my plugins or one of the greasemonky scripts I have running, but I'm having the same exact problem with Internet Explorer.
There's one thing I did that may be the root cause of my problem. Yesterday I clicked a button that installed IPv6/Toredo without really knowing what I was doing. I was just curious, I suppose. While the program was working on installing whatever Toredo is my computer crashed. There's nothing listed on the Add/Remove Software page, so I'm guessing it was never installed, but what do I know?
Help?

This wouldn't be so bad except it happened minutes after I called her to arrange to meet at 6:15 and she already asked if it could be earlier because she finishes at 5pm and she'll be waiting around.
On top of that I am actually doing an SEO presentation for the second half of said meeting which I have already cut from 40 mins down to 30.... I hope the guy talking before me makes it quick.

I'm watching it now and so far I kind of like it. Plays out like the older westerns before everything got too modern. Plus, it's got Alan Tudyk. :D

At 9:30pm on Sunday evening I had my last cigarette. I only smoked 3 that day, and it was a bit of a struggle. I was off work all day yesterday, and made sure to keep myself occupied so I wouldn't be tempted to go and purchase a pack.
Last night, I tossed and turned in bed for hours. And I mean hours. I went to bed at about 11:30, and remember seeing the clock at 4am.
My alarm went off at 6:45, at which point I got out of bed and took a shower. After I got out, I felt a bit clogged up so I decided to blow my nose. This is when I realized that I had a bit of a nose bleed. Let me be clear about something, Shack. I don't get nosebleeds. It doesn't happen. Ever. Needless to say I was a bit freaked out by it.
So now I'm sitting here at work, ready to pass out from being so tired yet feeling like I could explode because of my anxiety. So far I'm doing well, though. If I can just make it through to the weekend I think I'll be alright. As long as I can sleep.
