Crytek: Crysis Warhead Patch, Editor on the Way

13
Crysis Warhead developer Crytek recently assured fans in a community update that a patch for the standalone shooter is nearing completion.

"Crysis Warhead will receive a patch in the new year," said the team in a statement. "It's almost finished thanks to some hard work from the Warhead team, so that's something to look forward to." The company also noted that a new editor and SDK will be the next priority.

"The Editor and SDK are being worked on and will be available for release in the new year. We currently don't know when this will be, but good progress is being made and we're hoping it will be sooner rather than later."

    Wow, it's about time. I was wondering if they would ever patch the single player content.

      I just picked it up during the Steam Holiday Sale, what are the issues with the campaign that need fixing? Should I wait for the patch?

        I didn't have any game play bugs, but the object pop-up, materialization is horrendous, even on enthusiast level. Sticks and rocks materialize only a few steps from my character as he walks. That should be addressed.

          Yeah, I guess that's the only complaint I would have as well.

          Um, this is the much hyped optimization they were talking about. I don't think they optimized the engine much at all. Just cut corners with the way it draws things.

            yup, that pretty much nails it. i always lough when some dev is talking about "optimizations". unless he is carmack, that is.

            Well, technically, that is optimization.

          you can fix that will some console settings, i seriously doubt they will change that though.
          con_restricted=0
          e_view_dist_ratio=80
          e_view_dist_ratio_detail=80
          e_view_dist_ratio_vegetation=80

          This is the default values for Enthusiast:
          e_view_dist_ratio=60
          e_view_dist_ratio_detail=50
          e_view_dist_ratio_vegetation=65

          Just be warned increasing those values will drop your performance, in some cases quite a bit!

      Why, what was wrong with the single player content? (Never played it so would have no idea)

        I have encountered no problems or critical bugs so far. Have played the game through 2 times.

      I never had a problem. Went a lot smoother than Crysis did.

      I've had a few consistent app crashes with this game. Also, the game needs more optimization for performance. Remember, system and OS make the difference if you will see some of these issues.

      My System:
      Intel Core 2 Duo E8400
      3GB of DDR 800 RAM (yes I will upgrade soon since my board supports much faster)
      Radeon HD 4850 (512 MB)
      Windows Vista 64-Bit

        Games don't normally utilize more than 2 gigs of memory. The only reason you may need 4 gigs is for photo or video editing, or 3D rendering/ modeling.

          And your point is? First of all I'm running 64-bit Windows Vista which eats up 800 -1.0GB. Secondly, I do work on video editing. Currently working on a friend's animation project.

          Games alone generally don't, but games + OS overhead + other background applications and you're easily beyond 2GB. I noticed a definite increase in responsiveness when I went from 2GB to 4GB.

            I've only had one game ever take up more than some 1.3 GB of RAM. 3 gigs seems to be the sweet spot with regards to gaming. This leaves more than enough for OS overhead and junk programs. I'm in no way saying DON'T buy more, buy as much as one likes! It just won't make a difference when it comes to gaming.

          Crysis sees definite (though not necessarily enormous) average framerate improvements from either 4GB or 8GB of RAM, and tremendous minimum framerate improvements again in both cases vs 2GB.

          I'd assume that, even with the engine optimisations, Warhead will show similar gains. Games might not normally show an improvement, but Crysis has always been the exception to many rules.

      Played through multiple times here. Never had a crash or problem. It ran much smoother than the original. I was also impressed at the game's ALT-TAB performance. I could be back in windows in a flash and right back into the game just as quick. I can't say the same for some other titles (Source-Engine Titles, Unreal Tech 3 Titles).

        QFT. Anyway, i have to admit that im quite disappointed with the multiplayer but it's still better than the first one (or let's just say better maps)
