SF Bay Area Shack Rangemeet - Episode 2.1

Greetings fellow SF Bay Area Shackers! This Saturday, January 3rd, 2009, I'll be heading to the range in Los Altos from roughly 9AM - 3PM. This is the same range as the last Rangemeet I had in July. I tried to have one in November but it kind of fell apart.

There will be plenty of guns to shoot and you can refer to the Shackmeet page linked above for details. If you do not own any guns, you are welcome to shoot mine. In terms of ammunition, I have some ammo to spare but you can purchase ammunition at the range office. The fee to enter the range is also $14. I should have some extra earplugs too, but you'll need eye protection, sunglasses/glasses are fine. Anything impact resistant. They sell those there for $2 as well.

I'll be at the Safeway parking lot (GMap link below) around 8:00AM if you want to meet me there and to get some food beforehand. There is a BBQ pit but I'm just packing a simple lunch and snack and then going for Pizza afterwards. When 8:45AM rolls around, we'll carpool or convoy up to the range. If you rather meet up at the range later or want to leave early, then you should drive yourself up there. It's about a 20-25 minute drive up a narrow windy road too.

Shackmessage me for my contact info if I don't contact you first. Also, I encourage carpooling too to reply if you like or need to carpool. I'll be posting this daily to update with the status.

Man, Shackhype on Tropic Thunder was right on the money! Really great to see a comedy that's actually funny and foul really go out of its way with production values.

And Tom Cruise might've been the funniest thing I've seen all year! Goddamn I laughed at that character!

Recommended. Would watch again!

So, I finally got Rock Band 2 and they sent the cymbals and stage kit (LOL). I want to keep both games, but only want to keep one set of instruments. Opinions on mixing and matching? I think I am going to have to keep the GH drums because they use separate cymbals where the RB2 kit only duplicates 2 of the pads on the cymbals. Also, the GH:W guitar has the slide censors. They also sent the Fender bass for RB2 so I think I'll keep that.

WOW, GTA IV on PC still has a fair bit to go. After having to install Rockstar social utility app and then Live for windows hoping to get some play time this thing disappoints. My main issue is sound related. I don't hear any ambient sounds. I've checked the config but yeah, no ambient sounds. All I hear is the radio and when they talk in the car or he's on the phone I don't hear anything.

I got the latest drivers and I installed the GTA patch #1 .Camera movement is sometimes dodgey but I was kind of expecting that. Performance is not too good even on a reasonable pc but then I knew of that problem also so I'm not disappointed.

Anyone had similar issues and solved them?

FALLOUT 3!

This game gets better and better! I loved FO 1 and 2. Great RPGs. But dear god, is it just me or is FO 3 just ruining other games for me! I am doing every side quest, event I can. I thought I was getting through it, but i have my brother and 3 other friends playing and we are all experiencing different things. The size of this game.... I loves it. I logged out tonight after entering a "Leave it to Beaver" VR. This game is the most impressive I have played in a long time.

I'm trying to understand what the review hate is with NFS: Undercover, because I'm having a blast.

Ok, granted - there are rendering issues (the game does run slower than 30fps at times) it can get repetitive, and there is an easiness to it that it hard to pinpoint (there's not as much apparent EA rubberbanding, cops don't seem to use tire shredders, etc.) - BUT this is back to the NFC basics: tracks are meant for high speed cruising, lots of little side ways that aren't always marked, and from a standpoint of layout, feels like NFS:MW's city map. There's no drifting or drags - only modes that require high speed and fast reflexes. If anything, the series should be praised for getting back to its roots despite the technical problems with the game.
