Bungie Releases Halo 3: ODST Concept Art
by Nick Breckon, Dec 29, 2008 9:30am PSTThis new concept art from Halo 3: ODST is probably less interesting without knowing the concept of the game.
Taking place during the events of Halo 2, the game will put players into the role of ODST recon trooper The Rookie, part of a five-man team dropped into New Mombasa. As things inevitably go wrong, and The Rookie discovers "crime scenes" at his teammates' last known positions, the game will shift perspectives to one of the other four other troopers, telling each piece of the story in a flashback.
The standalone 360 release, estimated to provide 3-5 hours of gameplay for under $60, hits next fall.

They're touting 3-5 hours as, what, a bargain for "under 60" bucks? Shit, I get that much play out've freeware games. As they're refering to it as a 'standalone' release, they're making the implication that it's nothing more than an expansion pack, albeit one that doesn't require the original software to run, and 60 bucks for an expansion pack is almost Bethesdarian in its insanity. I mean, 'under 60' is, what, 59.99?
I get that they're implying that the game is actually several smaller games with one overlying story, because you get the flashback bit from other character's POV. But still. They're charging you basically 12 bucks per character you play as.
Disturbing trend. Starcraft 2 is gonna sell as three seperate titles, each premium price, but you only get 1/3rd of the storyline per title. This is gonna turn ugly if this method of delivery isn't curtailed...
