Konami Unveils 'Next Metal Gear'

After weeks of teasing "a next Metal Gear", series publisher Konami has officially announced that the popular stealth-action franchise is coming to the iPhone.

Dubbed Metal Gear Touch, the game was revealed alongside three other Konami iPhone projects: Frogger, Silent Hill: The Escape, and DanceDanceRevolution S Lite.

Due spring 2009, Metal Gear Solid Touch is a "touch shooter," and will initially pack 8 levels based off Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3). More stages will be added post-release.

The Metal Gear Touch logo matches up with the teaser image for "a next Metal Gear," confirming that the teased project and Metal Gear iPhone are one and the same.

Konami's other three iPhone efforts will be available "from late December 2008." While Frogger and Dance Dance Revolution appear as one would expect, the third-person survival horror series Silent Hill has become a first-person shooter in the transition.

Blah blah everyone hates this...why exactly? Its not like this is hurting you if you don't own an iphone and don't give a shit about games. Me, I finally have a game for the iPhone besides Sim City I'm genuinely excited about. Color me fucking excited.

MGS without story & stealth? What's the point of even calling this an MGS game?

The iPhone is pretty bad as a gaming device. Might have 10x the hardware of a Nintendo DS but every game I've seen so far was super primitive in terms of look & play.

Looks like it's got good graphics, add on 8 levels (+) and all the cutscenes it must have and you've got a pretty beefy (and hopefully worth while) download.

This is totally and completely unexpected. Needless to say, I HATE it!!! I was kinda hoping it would be the next MGS game, either on ps3 or on ps3 & 360 (i don't care which system it's on), with Kojima's team taking the reins from him (he will surely provide input though as we all know).

But this.. even though I own an iPhone is totally pathetic...

Is it just me or is this completely underwhelmimg for all the riddles and secrecy behind the website? I honestly don't think I'd be any more excited even if I had an IPhone. I'm perfectly fine with games like Brickbreaker on my phone, and I rarely play that. Hell I barely find time to pick up my DS.
