it'll be sad if the PS3 fizzles out - right now, it's finally seeming to hit some kind of a stride!

Ok, then definitely a lot of people here haven't done that, and a lot of my friends definitely haven't done that. But in all seriousness I didn't do that. But I don't see how it's logical because the condition Microsoft sends those refurbished units to you, it would seem logical to want a brand new one.

You think there are a significant number of people who are so addicted to the awesomeness of their 360 that they'd rather not live 2 weeks without it even if it means giving up purchasing a 24" LCD, a netbook, a ps3, a TiVo, etc instead and then having one of those awesome items and a 360? You really think there are a lot of people like that? In this economy no less?

No that's not all you were saying. You said "a lot" of people do that, implying that it is a significant percentage. You were supporting the claim that the number of people doing this is so high that it is the leading cause of the 360 selling so much more than the PS3. That means millions of people are doing this. It really is common sense to know that this is false.
Sure maybe a few thousand people have done this. I agree with that. But that's not the claim you were making.

here's some more infallible logic: I know 8 people with 360s. Only one of them has red ringed and that was just a week ago, and he isn't buying a new one just so he won't be without a 360 for 2 weeks. What now dilutedq? How can you argue against my awesome anecdotal evidence? That's right, you can't.
Because anecdotal evidence isn't real evidence at all.

Taken as purely 360 vs PS3 then I'd agree with you, but seeing as any exclusive worth having on the 360 will make its way onto the PC eventually it doesn't bother me so much, whereas the PS3 has enough great exclusives that are solely on that platform to warrant a purchase if you already own a gaming PC in my mind.

That's the irony. Sony hyped it as a multimedia platform that by-the-way can play games. People are buying it as a multimedia platform that by-the-way can play games.
Unless things have changed, they're still losing money on every console. The Sony multimedia platform hype is actually one of the things destroying the economic viability of the console.
