X-Men Origins: Wolverine Platforms Unveiled

6
Activision today announced the platforms for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, revealing that, as expected, the licensed movie tie-in will arrive on every current console and handheld.

PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS and PSP editions will debut alongside the movie of the same name in May.

The game is being handled by Marvel: Ultimate Alliance veteran Raven Software and Amaze Entertainment. Activision did not specify which deveoper is handling which version, though Amaze's history suggests it will be responsible for the DS release.

    PS2? WTF?
Great, now the entire game will be bottlenecked by that outdated system, yet they will still charge an extra $20 for the 'next-gen' versions whose only difference will be 'prettier visuals.'
When, oh when, will publishers stop forcing devs to ruin games by making them for every freakin system under the sun?
    Bah, I need some coffee...

This argument sounds familiar. Oh wait, I own a PC, I use this argument all the time. =D

There was a time when games came out on the PC first, and platforms later.
        Ahhh, the good ol' days...

Recently, with the new Spider-Man game, Activision used independent developers for each platform (current gen, old gen, and handhelds). It is possible that they're doing this with the new Wolverine game. EA did the same for The Simpsons game.

yeah, that makes sense. i don't think they "bottleneck" as much as when PS2 was still the king. that ended when they stopped calling the 360 and ps3 "next gen".

Separate devs or not, they still have to go by the lowest common denominator when designing the game so each platform isn't completely different. Most publishers want all console versions of the same game to be pretty much identical. However, I would love it if the PS2 version was totally different from the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

I depends. I mean, Call of Duty: World at War came out on PS2 and it was an entirely different game than the other versions. There could be another team at Raven or Amaze working on PS2--Amaze has done PS2 games in the past, but has recently focused more on Nintendo DS.
