Grand Theft Auto 4 PC Release Plagued by Bugs

53
Rockstar's release of Grand Theft Auto 4 on the PC is turning into a headache for some consumers, with many players reporting errors ranging from missing textures to show-stopping crashes.

Shacknews has independently verified the issues, with our own Steve Gibson being met with two separate, nondescript error codes that kept him from loading the game at all.

The bugs have been well documented on the Steam forums, with one user compiling a list of potential fixes.

The game-loading RMN40 error can apparently be nixed in Windows XP by updating to Service Pack 3. Shacknews found success with the Vista workaround, which requires an install of the Microsoft .NET 3.5 Framework (download here) and a reboot. A separate MMA10 error requires users to log out of the Rockstar Social Club multiplayer utility in order to play.

While the missing texture problems (see above image) have been attributed to corrupt graphics drivers, many users have been unable to fix the issue after a driver reinstall. The game is also restricting some users from changing their graphical settings.

Shacknews has contacted Rockstar for comment on the situation.

A co-worker in the studio I work at claims he can only get 14fps on his Quad Core PC with a Radeon HD 4870 X2 Video Card. Hopefully the patch is soon, I know others who want to purchase this title on PC.

Q9550 with a 4870 here. The X2 might have a problem with the dual gpus or something right now, but I get very good framerates with the settings as high as the game will allow me to set them. I do have problems with textures flashing or doing strange things sometimes, but nothing gamebreaking and no crashes after around six hours of gameplay.

Interesting, so not all is lost. I have another friend dying to get this game after seeing me play on PS3 earlier this year. :D

        1GB or 512MB 4870?

1GB, he said it used over 900 MB's of ram. I personally haven't seen this, I'm just going on what my co-worker said.

When i put the textures on high it said it would use ~900mb of memory and didn't recommend it for my card.

My 8800 GTS 640 will not allow above medium unless I force it. Medium looks damn good though.
