Kingdom Hearts DS Coming to North America

As Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories (PS2) heads off to North American retailers today, publisher Square Enix has confirmed that the upcoming Nintendo DS entry, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, will eventually arrive in North America as well.

Initially revealed alongside the PSP entry, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, 358/2 Days is set before the events of Kingdom Hearts II (PS2). It follows Roxas, a protagonist introduced in the sequel, during his days with the mysterious Organization XII.

Keeping with series tradition, these adventures will let players explore Disney locales and interact with various Disney characters. However, these adventures are solely limited to those Disney worlds that have already appeared in past KH games.

Development of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 is being handled by h.a.n.d., the last Nintendo DS release from which was Square's Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon.

An estimated release date for the English version of the action-RPG prequel was not provided. The Japanese version is currently slated to arrive in February.

I'm sure there will be a third "proper" entry in the series on consoles...but I'd wager not until after Nomura is done with his Final Fantasy XIII stuff.
