Xbox 360 Outsold PlayStation 3 3:1 on Black Friday, Claims Microsoft
by Chris Faylor, Dec 02, 2008 8:03am PSTThe Xbox 360 outsold the PlayStation 3 on a three-to-one ratio on Black Friday, one of the biggest holiday shopping days of the year, Microsoft has announced.
Citing U.S. retailer reports, Microsoft said November 28 was a "historic Black Friday for Xbox 360," with an estimated 25% jump in hardware sales over Black Friday 2007.
The company further reported that, since the September price drop, the Xbox 360 has outsold the PlayStation 3 "week over week across Europe," with European console sales "up as much as 400 percent."
Noted Microsoft VP Don Mattrick: "Record Black Friday sales in the U.S., coupled with our existing global install base of 25 million and an online community of more than 14 million Xbox Live members, have laid the groundwork for continued global sales momentum in 2009."

I don't really care. I use mine for BR and there have been 2 awesome games which made my purchase worthwhile (Uncharted and Little Big Planet). But they will continue to trail further and further to the point where it will be clear to everyone that this system failed overall. (ie: fanboys will come to terms with it)
BR sales will continue to be way too high and will eventually fail as a format as well. This sucks because I love BR discs but its obvious to me at this point that it will fail without some major changes.
All of this could be fixed if someone with common sense decided to change a few things.
1. Cheaper Blu Rays
2. More games with better online features
3. Cheaper console with headset standard
Shadow of the Colosus 2 and God of War 3 aren't going to make a big dent either. Those are games people on the Shack will fap over, but they aren't big huge "omg I have to get a PS3 even though I already have a 360" sellers.
I'm sure tons of you will disagree but this is my prediction. If history shows us anything, I don't believe there has ever been a console in third place that managed to make a big comeback. They ran their operation like shit from day 1.

Sony can try to lower it's prices, but MS can just keep lowering theirs. It's been long enough for the PS3's supposed graphical and hardware superiority to show up and, just as people who had taken objective looks at the hw comparisons, it's obviously not there. BR isn't taking off quickly enough to push PS3's and now with the introduction of low cost stand alone BR3 players, the rationale of buying a PS3 as a "cheap" BR player is flying out the window. MS is upgrading their product with NXE, adding Netflix instant downloads and HDD game installs. All stuff people are actually looking forward to. Contrast that to Sony's At Home project which is predictably late and underwhelming.
I wonder how long before MS releases it's next console.... My guess is 3 years from now. Maybe 2.

I have to agree though that Sony is likely already looking to their future console to bail them out of the hole the PS3 has dug them.
